Battlestar Galactica: The Final Five #1 issued today

io9.com has a preview of some pages from the first issue of “The Final Five”. Supposedly will provide some back story to the FF…but possibly touches on some of the Kobol history and somehow even Kara’s story could come into play.

The article is vague, but I found the pictures a little spoilery, if not just extremely confusing.

Do you know the story on these? Obviously they’re authorized, but are they canon?? I’m going to get one if they are.

I haven’t bought a comic book since Jimmy Carter was in office.

Strange that Amazon and Barnes & Noble say it will be released November 2009, and io9 says issue #1 was released today.

I remember reading an article, just prior to the start of season 4.5 in January, that did seem to imply that this story they were working was canon…

[A Google search later] And here it is!

Though, admittedly, it’s not very clear whether the story is canon or not was the conclusion of the article’s author or from Seamus Kevin Fahey/David Reed directly.

As far as picking up a copy is concerned, you’re probably better off checking out your nearest comic store than hitting up Amazon or B&N - the release date those guys refer to may be a planned compilation of issues/book, rather than the single issue.

I didn’t see this at my store yesterday :frowning:

Well, it’s not like I won’t be back next week and will actually have time to ask if they can get it from another store. And it’s not like I didn’t spend enough on comics yesterday…

yeah–soon as I see that at the comic stors it’s mine…MINE I TELL YOU MWaaaa-hahahahahahah…ha Last laugh

I confess not having any idea where a comic store is around me. But I’m sure Houston has one somewhere. I hope you all post some reviews if you get a copy before me.

First off, I checked Diamond’s release schedule and it might be out next week rather than this week. Secondly, what part of Houston? Bedrock City (WONDERFUL couple of stores, I’m a devoted customer of the Clear Lake store) has a location on Westheimer and another on 1960 (wherever that is, I suck at remembering numbered streets), and there’s a place right across the street from the Alamo Drafthouse called Midnight Comics that I highly recommend. Also, Nan’s Comics (somewhere inside 610, but I can’t remember where) has an awesome selection of comics, games, collectables, etc. It’s where we get a lot of our more obscure RPG sourcebooks.

Thanks Sithwich, I just checked and the Westheimer location is close to where I live!

Whoohoo! Also, you’re lucky, they’re the ones that get most of the surprise drop-ins. I might be making a trip up there for a little while on Free Comic Book Day to get Terry Moore to sign a copy of Runaways #1 (the reboot) for me

I finally bought this the other day. I was hoping it was going to be one of the sturdier, bound BSG comics I saw in the store for $14.99 but, alas, it is a short, flimsy little pamphlet really. I don’t know jack about comic books so maybe that’s normal. It only cost $3.99 I think. This is apparently canon.

This is basically what happens…
It takes place 4,000 years ago (make that 154,000 actually!) on Kobol with the trial of Pythia (who is drawn to resemble Starbuck and sees Head Six in water puddles) in front of the Quorum of 12…make that 13, because there’s a new 13th group that everyone on Kobol dislikes, including Pythia. A certain Michael Tigh, a 13th, is trying to save Pythia though we still don’t know what she’s done, something to do with blashpheming the gods. Oh and by the way, the gods are apparently absent abstractions at this time on Kobol which conflicts with how they were presented in the series. None of that living in peace with the gods stuff.

Anywho, there’s massive social unrest and concurrent plots to destroy both Pythia as well as the 13th tribe who live in a resurrection-ship-looking building. By the end Michael Tigh and Pythia have made it to the last ship of the 13th tribe and blasted off for points unknown. And somehow, so has a man named John Cavil who, unbeknownst to us, tried to help the 13th tribe, got very injured and was Cylonized for lack of a better term.

This is just the first in a series of four. It feels disjointed but maybe it’s because more will be explained later, or because comic books are just this way. Also, seems a little too cute to use the same names from our series 4,000 years later.
picked up a copy–really good so far!
