Batman

I don’t have the same aversion you do about a Dark Knight Returns movie, but I agree with Old Timer—they wouldn’t jump to a old Batman in the next movie anyway.

Of course they are going to finish off the Year One movies with Bale. But where will they take the Bat after that film is finished? With the success of The Dark Knight Warner Brothers is jumping on the superhero bandwagon. There is talk of a Superman reboot, Justice League is back on the table, and there is work on a Green Arrow movie that has him in a supervillian prision called Supermax. I’m still hoping for a Superman/Batman film, but I wouldn’t mind a Dark Knight Returns movie either. Personally I really want to see a Green Lantern movie.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but the last scene with Batman and the Joker in TDK, when they’re up on the skyscraper and Batman tries to talk Joker out of crime and Joker says he could give it all up, but he doesn’t feel like it, that’s almost directly lifted from The Killing Joke - awesome!

I didn’t catch that line at all. Been ages since I read the comic, but I thought the two nods to The Killing Joke (That I picked up on) with the multiple origins of the scar and the interrogation scene were awesome.

The same could be said of the old TV show, much to the disdain of comics fans.

I have one of those! My sister got it for me when she heard they were being pulled from shelves. Definitely a bizarre collectible…

Why choose?

Now that you say that, it does seem familiar. I need to track down my copy of TKJ.

I still have my old copy of the elseworlds graphic novel “In Darkest Night”. It’s about Bruce Wayne becoming Green Lantern instead of Hal Jordan. A great read if you can still find the book somewhere. I wonder if the above picture is from a sequel.

Sounds awesome.

Much like Galaxy Ranger, a few weeks after seeing Dark Knight, I think my general response to the movie is just to bask in its awesomeness. I mean, I love it, and as much as I’d normally yak about something I liked so much… After nearly 20 years of disappointing Bat flicks, I’m just so glad they got it right.

And after four weeks of thinking about it, I STILL can’t imagine how they’ll do a third flick and keep it at a similar level. Not a bad problem to have, though.

Io9 reported rumors today about Johnny Depp playing the Riddler (which would be cool) and Cher playing a “middle-aged” (more like: crusty&old!) Catwoman in Batman3.

Jonny Depp cool

Cher WTF!!

Difference of opinion but I thot both Ronin and Sin City were pretty good. As far as Miller being involved in the next Batman movie, it wouldn’t bother me the slightest.

Glad to hear you enjoyed The Dark Knight. You and everyone else might want to be careful about posting spoilers though, as the film is still in the theaters here, and I just barely had the chance to go see it. Luckily, I wasn’t spoiled. Whew!

Monica Belucci as Catwoman kthnx

Just reread the Killing Joke. Forgot that the Joker crippled Batgirl. Didn’t he also kill one of the Robins?

Jason Todd. But he’s not really missed by readers.

Or, some would argue, Batman.

Yeah, I can see that.

In my mind, in terms of total impact on the Bat-world, the shooting of Batgirl was worse than the killing of Jason. In mean, even though Jason is actually dead and Barbara “mereley” crippled, every single time I see Babs in that wheelchair I have to think about what happened to her. Plus, they’ve been doing weird things with Jason. Like, the Red Hood thing…

Is his grandmother being impersonated by a wolf?

Jason Todd’s death was the first – and possibly worst – example of current Batman/DC staff trying to appropriate one of Frank Miller’s ideas from Dark Knight Returns.

Red Hood has a wicked twist:
The grandmother is the wolf
You’re kidding, right?

I hope so! I’ve read about the return of Jason Todd. Didn’t have something to do with the Final Crisis or whatever crossover? Also wasn’t the Joker originally the Red Hood? I was kind of hoping they would have given that a nod in the new movie.

That whole red hood/Joker thing always has struck me as pretty feeble - even in the excellent TKJ novel.

The best explanations I have seen for the origins of The Joker are, in order:

 1. The Dark Knight - don’t explain it, really - except to have HL keep changing his story from one awful scenario to another.

 2. Batman - the first Tim Burton movie - yep, that’s right. Napier, a psycho killer to begin with, betrays his mob boss by sleeping with his “moll”/Palance sets up for revenge - “you’re my number one guy”/great scene - and music - at the chemical plant/the horrific surgery location, instruments and bandage removal scene/hysterical gruesome laughter - thought all of that was pretty strong stuff. Better than anything about origins that ever has been in print.

I don’t mind the return of Jason Todd, mainly cause he’s a robin that’s cool and is a got antagonist for the current robin and Nightwing. Plus he was rockin dual modded Glock 18Cs in his last appearence.

Oh and Red Robin is around/coming back
