Batman

Could be a good fit. I don’t think they will go the whole Bane and breaking the Bat route in the next movie. Although I’d love to see a credible Bane on film and not that crappy mmmmmmmm brute we got in Batman and Robin.

I bet you think King-Tut would be a good choice for villain as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally agree.

I don’t know…
I can picture a disgruntled IT guy leading people around with wild internet goose chase riddles. We’d finally get a chance to see “The World’s Greatest Detective” do his big brain thing. (just imagine the marketing)

Yes!! How about Clint Eastwood as Batman in the The Dark Knight Returns? That would be awesome.

You, my fine feathered friend, are a casting genius!

Ditto to you too, Thot!
Wow. I can actually picture the film now.

I really just want to see Superman getting his ass kicked.

That would be really interesting. Given what a hit the Year One take on Batman to film I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Dark Knight Returns given the film treatment.

Before he died, I always thought Jack Palance would have made a good DKR Batman. (of course, that was before the last couple of movies upped the anti on acting.)

There are two ways that could go. Obviously, it goes without saying that Superman has a significant strength and endurance advantage. So clearly this is a possibility:

On the other hand, that’s not Superman’s style. If he was ever going to pulverize someone’s face like that, Lex Luthor wouldn’t have died from cancer. I think the more likely scenario is this:

I have no doubt that Batman always has kryptonite with him, even on the toilet.

Good point. Only one man for the job: Adam West.

aw yeah.

A shame about George Carlin. He’d have made a perfect Green Arrow.

Brilliant casting. Unfortunately. :frowning:

Yeah, he was bit too Solomon Grundy (someone else we won’t be seeing in a Nolan film, I reckon). But Bane could fit. Experimental steroids and adrenaline isn’t too far out of the realm of the possible…

I bet you think King-Tut would be a good choice for villain as well.

Actually, no. For one thing, limited puns. The whole Jekyll & Hyde knock on the head thing is lame, too. Plus, he really disturbingly looks like my cousin. Just kinda freaks me the frak out.

That could actually be pretty cool. The Riddler in the internet age. Nice.

Does he even act any more?

Ask and you shall receive.

Hilarious!!
Keyser Soze gives Superman the beatdown!!!

stop that, that’s very silly. you made me choke.

my suggestion was Batman vs. Predator. or, Batman vs. al-Qaeda! heh.

wow, that is very true. GC would’ve been exactly the guy to play Green Arrow. of course, we all know who would have to play the aged Batman, right?
Olmos.
edit: ::smacks head:: why didn’t i think of Bane? now i’m just ashamed of myself.

Tüdelü…

I’m just gonna look the other way until the 21st…

Yeah, he was bit too Solomon Grundy (someone else we won’t be seeing in a Nolan film, I reckon). But Bane could fit. Experimental steroids and adrenaline isn’t too far out of the realm of the possible…

Well they did do a whole story about the origin of Venom in the Legend of the Dark Knight series years ago. Bane wasn’t in the story and I’m not sure how closely they are looking at the Legends books for inspiration.

I’m slowing working my way into DC. I dunno yet though. I started reading Green Lantern and Green Lantern corps cause of the Sinestro War and have continued. I picked up Batman, Robin, and Nightwing cause of Batman RIP but of the three titles I’m enjoying Batman the least. It’s so frakkin hard to follow.

That must be why no one answered my question about R.I.P. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s the one thing that makes me throw my hands in the air about comics, (Especially multiple title books) all the continuity you have to keep track of. Plus you have whole line crossovers that gum up the works sometimes. It’s hard to keep everything straight. Also your wallet takes a big hit if you are an avid comic book fan.

Good idea. But come back after you see it. Spoilers to follow.

Here’s what I think is the real road block to TDKR being the “next” movie - they haven’t soaked the franchise enough to want to get to the final episode.

Having said that, if they ever make TDKR, The Joker would be significantly older too, which may enable them to address the late HL problem.

But boy, if they do make it, what a challenge. Start with length. Move on to Harvey Dent needs to be alive. They will be tempted to “write out” the Mutants (as passe?) and, of course, they are right at the center of the saga, especially the leader. Also, the Robin character is terrific and I fear she would be written out.

Finally on bad guys in Batman. The eternal problem is that in the hands of competent writers The Joker and Harvey Dent are the 2 best villains in the series. In fact I bet we all agree that The Joker has become one of the most compelling villains in fiction - period. You get past them and the others, as written to date, pale (no pun intended) in comparison.

Except that a case can be made for The Penguin. Tim Burton came close to a great villain with The Penguin in Batman Returns - but did not quite pull it off. A “deformed” from birth, abandoned by parents character, who is so furious at the world that he spits black bile when he talks, has real possibilities in my view. Most of the time there was nothing goofy or squawky about Danny Devito’s Penguin. The Nolans might be able to perfect what Burton started.

As for Batwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer’s portrayal, as directed by Burton, I thought was terrific (and creepy). So, there’s no reason not to bring the character back - just not as the lead.

I don’t think so. Trying to get overly dark with the standard Batman rouges gallery is going to start to look like ‘me-too’ Jokers.

There’s a reason the bad guy in TDKR was new.

As a Batman hardliner who’s never happy with anything except Dark Night Returns, Killing Joke, and the Nolan movies, I feel like there’s nowhere to go after Dark Knight. Not in the realistic style.

Unless they film Dark Knight Returns, as written. Which just ain’t gonna happen any year soon, for any number of reasons.

They COULD make a movie of Batman just beating people up, go the opposite route of the big-budget blockbuster, but that wouldn’t really work. I mean, Nolan could do a great minimal noir piece. But just beatting people up.

If I could make one wish for Dark Knight (which came as close to completely satisfying me as possible), it would have been for just a bit more hand-to-hand combat. But when I’m objective, I think about the only thing that would make my picky self help would be a movie rendition of the Dark Knight Return fight between Batman and the Mutant Leader. That, dear readers, would be nalls nasty.

Till then, I guess this will tide me over…

“You don’t get it, kid. This is an operating table, and I’m the surgeon.”

Yep - “These men are MINE!”

You’re probably right. The Burton Penguin is about as good as that character is going to get. “They” would need a new villain or a totally rethought traditional one. Of course, they have The Joker in jail and the actor who played him to a tee dead. And killed off Harvey Dent and the actor who played him alive. Ooops.

The rub is that The Joker is the most powerful and interesting counterpoint to Batman. Although the Mutant Leader was pretty strong. Just not sure how he would translate to the screen 25 years after the novel.

Extra props for referring to it as “the novel.”

They could chage the 80s-based mutant gear, as long as it’s essentially some terrifying young hulk.
