Batman

So I’ve heard.

How long now until TDK makes its arrival in The Fatherland? (It’s taking so long it may be impossible for the movie to live up to the hype.)

Glad to see the old avatar resurrected.

Thursday in two weeks. It’s really hard to stay away from spoilers.

I got tickets for the premiere night, 8pm in the biggest theater and whaddaya know, I got the best two seats too, last row, dead center.

They assign your seats to you in Germany? I hope you know how well that fits into American stereotypes about Germans. We do it the proper way here: total free market.

Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue here, if seating at the movies was by assignment? It would seem like we were in - well - Italy, for example.

If you drove over to the Czech Republic, you could watch it today.

There are assigned seats? I trust you’ll share your thoughts with us afterwards?

Did you know the South American Spanish name of the movie is El caballero de la noche? That’s “The Knight of the Night”.

Which would make a great title for a third rate horror film destined to be lampooned on MST3K.

Hm, yeah but in this case, my über-geekness of ordering the tickets two weeks in advance totally payed off because I came first and therefore got the best seats for opening night.

That IS interesting! If school had already started and I was already at my new dwelling place, I’d totally do that!

There are assigned seats? I trust you’ll share your thoughts with us afterwards?

Of course they are assigned. Otherwise, people would be fighting over the best seats. This way, it’s first come, first served.

That’s “The Knight of the Night”.

Sounds like a porn B-movie. I’d give it a shot.

I went into that movie knowing most of the spoilers and I was still shocked and emotionally involved with that movie. It is pure genius.

I bet the movie starts and ends exactly on time too.

It actually makes me wonder why we don’t do it here too. I mean, there are seats assigned by tickets for stadiums, concerts, airplanes, etc. Why not movie theaters? What an odd little cultural curiosity…

A crazed lunatic in medieval armor stalks college co-eds by night! Somehow his victims never hear him coming and can’t get away from the guy wearing 80 pounds of steel. Oh yeah, I can totally see that. In fact, I think that’s a new made-for-TV movie on Sci Fi next week.

Here the über-geeks just camp out on line for days or weeks instead…

That IS interesting! If school had already started and I was already at my new dwelling place, I’d totally do that!

Really? I thought you weren’t willing to commute just “for a movie”.

Of course they are assigned. Otherwise, people would be fighting over the best seats. This way, it’s first come, first served.

That’s how it works for us. Except it all happens when you arrive, instead of weeks ahead of time.

Sounds like a porn B-movie. I’d give it a shot.

Why doesn’t that surprise me? :stuck_out_tongue:

That said, avoid the spoilers if you can!

Mostly. Except of course that every time after the ice cream commercial, a lady comes into the theater with a bag full of ice cream and asks people if they want to buy ice cream before the movie starts.

WHAT? What kind of imagination do you have?

“The Night of the Knight” is a Knight Rider spin-off movie, of course. It’s about one night in Michael Knight’s life and there’s Hasselhoff porn involved.

Here the über-geeks just camp out on line for days or weeks instead…

So, honestly, what would you rather do: spend two minutes online to order tickets in advance or spend days and nights on end in a line? Yes, I know, it depends on the quantity and quality of the chicks that camp out next to you in the line.

Really? I thought you weren’t willing to commute just “for a movie”.

You’re like my GF. You remember all the off-hand remarks that I’d rather forget about.

That just sounds surreal.

WHAT? What kind of imagination do you have?

Isn’t that obvious by now?

“The Night of the Knight” is a Knight Rider spin-off movie, of course.

Isn’t “Knight Rider” already a pretty good title for a porno in its own right?

It’s about one night in Michael Knight’s life and there’s Hasselhoff porn involved.

Is there Knight-on-KITT action? Actually, now that I think about it, KITT driving up into the back of that Knight Industries truck is pretty kinky, vehicularly speaking. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve never done either. I go the theater, get a ticket, and go inside. No real need to do all that forward planning…

You’re like my GF.

IYKWIM…?

You remember all the off-hand remarks that I’d rather forget about.

It’s somewhat easier when I just have to scroll up a little.

Galaxy Ranger, have you started watching Rome yet? Reason I ask, and reason I ask here, is this: I’d like to see Titus Pullo in a Batman movie. Not sure whom he’d play, but I think he’d be good in the mix.

Dark Knight doesn’t open there until, what, the 21st?

Not yet, I have both seasons here, but I’m working my through my reading list first.

Dark Knight doesn’t open there until, what, the 21st?

Yep. I got prime tickets for opening night!

Titus would be perfect for The Croc.

I was in the comic store the other day and I was glancing through a few Bat books. Can anyone explain to me what the whole Batman R.I.P thing is about? Did they kill Batman?

finally saw Dark Knight last night, and it was excellent, just like everybody said. i was talking to my friends about possibilities for the next Bat-movie, and we couldn’t come up with any suitable villains. Scarecrow is believable enough with his hallucinogens, and the Joker just scares the craaaaaap out of you, but who else would really be a believable villain? it’s unlikely they’d use the Joker again because of Heath Ledger’s death, and
it’s unlikely they’d use Two-Face, what with him being dead and all. which also makes it hard for him to kill Robin’s parents, so i don’t even know what that’s about.
i doubt they’d use Catwoman after the last movie was so poorly received, and so many of the remaining villains are just kind of lame: Mr. Freeze (ice beam? that’s all Johnny Snow), the Penguin (fat guy in a little coat), and the Riddler (too much like the Joker) are all kind of lame. i thought about Poison Ivy, but if she’s gonna have giant carnivorous plants or something like that it’ll be too similar to Little Shop of Horrors. who else is even left to choose from? Egghead?

Well the reason Catwoman sucked is that they just made a whole new character in that piece of crap and ignored everything but the costume from previous incarnations. The way they have been using the Year One mythology leads me to think that Catwoman is the next logical step.
Especially sine they killed Rachel off.
Catwoman has a role in the original Year One story and eventually got a Year One mini. It will be interesting to see what other villain they use. I think any of the villains above would work written in the tone that the new movies have used. Except for Egghead. :stuck_out_tongue:

How about Bane?

She could work in these films. She can be a very dark, gritty (such an overused word, but there it is) character, especially in Nolan’s capable hands.

and so many of the remaining villains are just kind of lame: Mr. Freeze (ice beam? that’s all Johnny Snow),

Nice.

Not to mention deviating from the realism that the other films have already established…

who else is even left to choose from? Egghead?

He would be eggs-cellent! A hard-boiled criminal like him would be a great change of pace from the Yolk-er. In a town like Gotham, he could take over – easy!

What’s with all the Egghead-hatin’??? That is so eggs-asperating! Just wait until you feel his in-eggs-orable wrath!

So two nights ago I saw The Dark Knight, and I gotta say all the praise I’ve heard about it is all completely deserved.
I already talked about the movie on the “The Dark Knight SPOILERS” thread, but I figured I’d post some of those same thots here (but without spoilers).
Hence the “…” where I’ve deleted stuff.

The whole experience of watching the movie was dissorienting in that I wasn’t USED to seeing such a quality movie. I kept thinking, ummm what’s going on —did this movie come from some other planet where they still make good movies?

Anyway, The Dark Knight ranks up with the best movies (of any genere) ever.
I almost hope they don’t make another Batman movie, because I doubt they could live up to this one. Athough I do look forward to a Batman vs. Superman movie someday.

I really want to see a motion picture adaptation of Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
Everyone in the cast, with the exception of Robin and Superman, would have to be portrayed by senior citizens. A shame about George Carlin. He’d have made a perfect Green Arrow.
