Babylon 5 Fest

Yeah, it may not be for everyone, but, I found all five seasons for $20 each at Best Buy right after Christmas (they average around $57 usually) So, of course, I picked up all 5 seasons and am doing a little rewatch of my own. That’s less than a dollar an episode for 110 episodes. It is such an elaborate plot, with so many twists, that you can’t help but like it. Worth a watch in these days of writers’ strike induced reruns.

yea I saw that but didnt make it to best buy in time to pick up any of the seasons since I am one who hasnt seen all of B5 except the pilot show and a few others… oh well next time it goes on sale I will have to pick it up.

That’s a pretty good price. I’ve been doing a rewatch, it is such a good show. There’s a boxset out here with all the movies and all 5 seasons. I think it goes for £100-150. It would be pretty cool to have.

Also, anyone see the new Babylon 5 The Lost Tales?

Yes, its pretty good, but its very short. Its two 30 minute episodes one focusing on Sheridan, the other on Lockly, both set after the time of the show. Don’t bother watching it until you’ve watched everything else though.

There were suposed to be more “Lost Tales” but the writers strike has put that on hold.

I know, I’ve already seen it. Just checking to see if anyone else has. It was certainly done on a budget, but I’ve heard that the dvd sales have been great. The starfuries looked really pretty with all the improvements in CGI. I bet my laptop has more processing power that the computers they used for the original series.

From the Lurker’s Guide of Babylon 5.

"All special effects for Babylon 5 are computer generated. Foundation Imaging, headed by Ron Thornton, produced the special effects for the pilot movie and seasons one through three. Starting in season four, the special effects were moved in-house to Netter Digital Imaging, another subsidiary of the parent of B5’s production company.

The B5 effects teams, both at Foundation and at NDI, use Lightwave 3D by NewTek and specialized software to design and render the visual effects. For the pilot, the effects were rendered on a network of Amiga computers; later, Foundation used 12 Pentium PCs and 5 DEC Alpha workstations for 3D rendering and design, and 3 Macintoshes for piecing together on-set computer displays. The NDI team uses a similar array of equipment; see George Johnsen’s comments below. "
