Well, it doesn’t really make anything, I suppose, at least not yet. Normally, in facebook and myspace, making friends is a way to show off to the world “look, I have more friends than you!”. Also, it’s a means of privacy control, determining who gets to see the profile details.
In GWC, it doesn’t really mean anything, since you can’t DO anything with friends yet. I imagine we’d eventually have stuff like “notify me when my friends post something” or “Send a PM to all of my friends”. I also imagine we’d eventually be able to build up our profile pages, in which case “friendship” based privacy control could be something useful.
I just thought it was strange that I got an email about it. I then went to investigate and someone has been working hard to update the forum. Things have changed all over.
