Are the Jedi a cult?

Okay so i was thinking about this during the podcast on ep 2

I mean they have strong hierarchy structure, they separate there people from there family and indoctrinate them with a new philosophy / way of life with rules about behavior, even if they they want to have sex with someone. add similar robes and haircuts

i mean all in all I’m screaming to Obi-wan to not drink the cool-aid right about now

I think the sex thing is the most important issue that the Jedis got totally wrong.

Whenever you inhibit the use of people’s joysticks, bad things are just wont to happen.

For further reference you can look up what Freud said about the sex drive.

Lets see, here is how dictionary.com defines it.

Cult

  1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
  2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers.
  3. the object of such devotion.
  4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
  5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
  6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.

OMG, does this mean we are all in a cult to? We have a trinity and even a false god (sorry Larry). I think that most of us (if not all) have a healthy outlook on sex so we have the advantage against other cults. Maybe if we ask nice we can get Audible to sponsor the Revolution.

I did a search for “Freud” “sex drive” in futurepedia and here is what i found-

Famous for his invention in 2083 of the Micro-Fusion Injection Engine, notoriously named “Sex Drive”. The basic design of the engine consisted of a long piston inserted into a hollow cylinder (both manufactured with classified materials). The thrusting action creates miniature exotic particles used to provide unlimited power for various applications. [/spoiler]

In a sense every religion or form of worship (fandom included) is a cult. Cult gets its bad name from being associated with those that go against the grain, not to mention the mass suicides and stuff.

If you are part of a cult you don’t call it a cult. It is your form of worship. Someone on the outside calls it a cult because they don’t believe what you do. To the Sith, the Jedi are a cult. To the Jedi, the Sith are the cult. It really comes down to philosophical differences. But generally when some massive group of worshippers kill themselves and let’s say they are Muslim or Christian or whatever. The “mainstream” Muslim or Christians will label that group a cult of their faith. ‘They did not follow the “true path”’. When in reality they did not follow common sense. Suicide is never an answer. A martyr dies alone and at the hands of someone else. A martyr does not kill others in the process.

Unfortunately basic human truths that have been found by religions have been distorted and abused by extremists. It’s sad but very human. It’s relevant now and thousands of years ago.

Jedi Church

The scary part is that the people on that site are serious.
