Appreciation thread for old LucasArts/LucasFilm Games adventure game classic

Some of the funniest days and weeks of my childhood and teenage life were spent playing adventure games such as “Monkey Island” (and all the sequels), Maniac Mansion and of course, the Indiana Jones games - I only recently re-played Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and I really wish they had turned it into a movie instead of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

So, this thread is for all of you out there you - like me - “fight like a cow,” turn their head whenever somebodys says something about a three-headed monkey and who trade with “these fine leather jackets.”

Right there with ya, GR. I spent many hours with Monkey Island, et al.

I never played it myself, but my sister was a Maniac Mansion addict, through several different versions. I enjoyed Afterlife. I loved that twisted sense of humor.

Oh wow, i used to love these games! Actually, now that I think about it … I still do!!! Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders was like one of the best games ever! I still find myself walking around at work trying to do things and then saying to myself “That doesnt seem to work” And the monkey Island games are just some of the best video game experiences I have ever had hands down. One year me and my friends went camping and hiking and we took a bucnh of video of our trip. There was this one clip of us all around the camp fire so I just had to edit in the colored text talking about who had found the biggest treasure on scabb island and of course the monkey island theme music. It was only funny to those who had played the game, but oh how funny it was.

I had a copy of the Fate of Atlantis, but there was a bug in it that wouldn’t let me progress beyond a certain point in the game even though I’d found the required object (I can’t at all remember what it was, it was a long time ago). But the copy I had came with saved games from earlier players, so I skipped ahead to the last level to watch the bad guy turn into a monster and fall into the lava.

I re-played Fate of Atlantis last week or so, it was awesome, it was so much more “true Indy stuff” than Crystal Skull.

I just got back from seeing Crystal Skull a few minutes ago.
It follows a lot of the Indy formula:
big action sequence to start off, then the call to find a mysterious object, multiple chases and fights between Indy and bad guys obsessed with said object, descent into a lair/fortress, gruesome death for bad guys by the power of the object, last second escape by Indy and pals as fortress collapses.
But yeah, other than that, a bit of the mystique was missing. Perhaps it was the change to a sci-fi object instead of something more mystical yet earthbound. I dunno. I found myself getting bored about an hour into that long, long chase scene through the jungle on jeeps. And then, Mutt
goes frakking swinging on vines and makes friends with the monkeys??!?!!?
I’m underwhelmed, but not really upset. I went with good company, so I had a good time.
