Anansi Boys movie

(Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this type of post.)

Neil Gaiman just announced on his blog that he has completed and submitted work on a script for an Anansi Boys movie:

This was such a good book, and so funny. I remember as I read it that I hoped they would make a movie out of it some day. I wonder who the star is that he refers to in his blog…

Anyway, wanted to share the news with anyone else who read and liked the book.

Thats pretty awesome. I loved the book. Also despite its low budgetness i really liked the Neverwhere TV movie. But the BBC has come a long way since that was released so Anasasi Boys should be pretty dam cool

Ooh, I’ve been hoping they’d do this for a while! I remember reading somewhere that someone was trying to buy the rights, but then Neil Gaiman found out that they wanted to make the main characters white, which… yeah, no. Not so much.

Hopefully this turns out well!

Was hoping he’d do American Gods first, it’s one of my favorite books.

Also one of my favorites. It was much more serious than Anansi Boys and in the right hands could make a good movie. In fact, I think American Gods probably has greater potential than Anansi Boys to be a “big” movie.

I think American Gods would make a better miniseries than a movie, though–it’s so rich, and there’s so much that would have to be cut to fit even into a two and a half hour movie. Something on HBO or Showtime, maybe, where I think they’d be less leery about something with religious themes in a less than completely positive light.

Great news.
Let’s hope it goes the way of Coraline and Stardust, and not the Sandman and Death: The High Cost of Living movies…

I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right… a two or three hour movie couldn’t do it justice.

It’s probably too optimistic of me, but I like to think that if the Thor movie does really well we’ll be more likely to see an American Gods screen adaptation.
