Is anyone else playing this game? I picked it up on a whim Thursday afternoon and I am hooked. This game carries on the creepy horror/thriller awesomeness from the first 3 Silent Hill games but it’s creepiness is mostly more psychological than the overt imagery Silent Hill had. The town it takes place in, Bright Falls, is beautifully rendered and feels very reminiscent of Harper’s Island from the short series that aired last summer or Twin Peaks. Stephen King would feel right at home in Alan Wake.
I’m only on episode 2 so far but I highly recommend it to any who loves the genre. The presentation is a bit different than many games of this type as it is presented like a tv miniseries, complete with the previously recaps at the start of the next episode. There is a crap ton of dialogue, the guys at Remedy put a lot of work into this, even creating radio and television programs to view/listen to throughout the game. Alan Wake is highly deserving of the praise it’s been receiving and there is also a six episode prequel webseries called Bright Falls available on XBox Live where they faithfully recreated several parts of the town from the game.
Edit: I’ve now finished the game and it was awesome. I’d seriously love to see this in movie or tv form. I really can’t wait for the DLC episodes to start. There is some really hilarious dialogue in the game too.
