Alan Sepinwall's Firefly rewatch

Just after the GWC Firefly arc wrapped, TV critic extraordinaire Alan Sepinwall has launched his own summerlong Firefly rewatch.

Here’s the first installment:

If you don’t read Sepinwall regularly, maybe you ougtta.

oh wow, he pretty much watched the pilot as it was being made… must be quiet an experience to rewatch it again.

I enjoyed how he described firefly would have seen like to people who saw it on air when FOX aired it out of order. I watched a couple of episodes of Firefly when it aired. I didn’t like it at all. I stopped after Bushwhacked. I am just not getting what these characters are about and what the heck is going on. Alan explained that perfectly.

I am so glad when people were excited about the Serenity movie I gave it a chance. And then watched the series in order. Otherwise I would have been stuck with the disjointed impression of Firefly and miss out on how wonderful it is.

Tangental: tor.com is doing a Firefly rewatch, too.

I’m definitely following the Firefly recaps because Sepinwall writes good recaps. (I’m also following The Wire S3, which is also another one of his summer rewatch series). But hee, it’s strange to pick up Firefly again so soon after/in conjunction (since I’m behind on the podcasts here) with the rewatch here.

I wonder if this is a good opportunity to put that Group A/B theory (by someone totally awesome whose name I can’t seem to recall at the moment) concerning favorite Firefly episodes to a larger pool of viewers in the comment section and see if the theory still sticks?

Coco, was it you who introduced the idea (here at WGC, at least) that Firefly was the best Joss Whedon show?

Cool site, thanks for the link! I had fun even reading the comments… The people there seem as nice as GWCers.

I wholeheartedly agree. I find myself wandering over to his site often. His previous blog ‘What’s Alan Watching’ is also something you may want to read. Loved reading his analysis on Battlestar Galactica, and he is a huge Chuck fan too.

I don’t remember if I was the one who introduced the idea here, but I do remember writing about that somewhere here and I definitely did and do think that for me, Firefly was the best (and perhaps most innately Whedon-esque) Joss Whedon show.

As a big Buffy fan, I initially scoffed. But I soon thereafter decided you’re totally right.

Omra, gotta say I just love your Serenity sig - very shiny !

A Homeresque “WOO HOO!”

Who knows - perhaps if Firefly had 7 seasons too, then Buffy would have taken that ‘crown’.

Man, I wish we could have watched 7 seasons of Firefly. Holy crap. That would have been awesome.
