A Streetcar Named Desire 5/18 @10ish

Brando is cruel and without compassion. So true when you are insane you find and hear strange meaning in everything.

Agreed. She’s hearing – and seeing – things right from the start.

Probably untreated schizophrenia.

The image of Blanche in the broken mirror is so powerful.

I get the feeling that this is where she snaps and completely disconnects from reality, especially with the Western Union message to no one. Vivian Leigh is fantastic here. She portrays the mania beautifully. I hate to see how her character ends up.

Nice indication of shattered self-image.

It’s tragic. But I still think it was just a matter of time. Stanley didn’t help though.

Argh! Crashed my browser!

Oh absolutely. And if it wasn’t Stanley, it would have been some other guy. Complete, unchecked downward spiral.

OTOH, how much of that was even real? We may have seen their interaction from her (albeit skewed) point of view.

Well, it seems pretty clear they all believe Blanche.

The way Brando plays it is perfect. He’s too cool. It makes you question what really happened.

At least Stella wised up.

Consider the source…

I’m fading out. Hopefully I won’t hear some lady selling flowers for the dead. So, Citizen Kane next week?

Great flick. Again, can’t believe I’ve never watched it before.

Yep. Sorry about the change.

I changed the schedule while you were setting up this thread. Hopefully, the rest of us will get our act together by next week.

Trek tomorrow? (And yes, I know I still have to set up the threads.)

Nice pick, guys. See ya next frak!

Yeah. The first time around watching all the classics I thot, “What’s so great about this old black-and-white film?” Then you watch it and they are magic and masterful. You realize why a 50 year old film still holds up. Sure the views are dated, but the performances are awesome. So much power and humanity.

I hope so. I’ve missed the last couple. I better get some rest for tomorrow.

Steeeelllllllaaaaa…?
