its a good read. not life changing but good.

Christopher Moore is rocking my and my wife’s world these days. We both just finished “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal” and laughed our butts off. We were also struck at how downright orthodox it was, without being really preachy. We’re both wanting to sink our teeth (heh-heh) into more Christopher Moore soon.
I have to finish Lamb! I got started and loved it and somehow got sidetracked a while back. I was also surprised that it sticks fairly close to the heart and principles of Christianity even while joking about it. Very funny - I love the explanation of the name “Josh.”
Yeah, but the really cool thing about it is that it’s true. Jesus is our version of the Greek version of “Jehoshua” or “Joshua,” hence, “Josh.” My favorite bits involve the reworking of stories from the gospels that are just slightly off, but still fit the original. Like the calling of Nathaniel (from John, I think) where the guy is sitting under a tree and Jesus says of him, “here’s a fine man of Galilee” and he up and follows him, after having wondered if anything good could come out of Nazareth just a few lines before. Moore keeps the essence of the story, but makes it about Jesus recognizing Nathaniel from having ridden past the same spot “Nate” was sitting at days before, which he’d only just happened to sit down at again just moments before. Things like that and the “rough draft of the sermon on the mount” (“we’re not adding ‘blessed are the dumb[fraks]’!”) are priceless.
I gotta get me some more Moore.
Holy Frak, I can’t believe that this book is being discussed here.
What are the fraking odds? (OK, not so high, given the population.) I’ve been holding off on the final chapter while I did computer craaaaap, but I guess I have my mission for the weekend.
Best. Book. EVER!
