How soon we forget…
I wasn’t much f a D&D player, but did play Champions a lot! Man I loved the system they used, as all of their RPGs used the same systems, so you could pull in elements from their Sci-Fi and Spy games into the Main Superhero game. What I did play a lot was board games, especially Avalon Hill’s Civilization, Squad Leader, and Amarillo Gamings Star Fleet Battles. I actually helped do a little game design on SFB.
Also man was I honored and shocked you guys played my message! While listening to all the much better stories, I was surprised to hear mine! lol! Good to know that our convo helped get you the jacket, and I definitely want to read Sean’s take on the LOA and Ep4 paper. I want to see his point of view, seeing as I approach it from a photographic background and he approaches it from a design background.
Oh and for Audra, here is one of the Junk Fashion Shots from the old Pentax Auto 110
And for Chuck, a shot of me and my Sigma DP2 rig. The only difference is where the Radio Trigger is, I had a pocket Flash.
As I got home tonight, I find in the mail 5 free passes for the screening of Deathly Hallows in NYC. I cannot go, so I will give them to anybody who can come and get them from me. I live on the Jersey Shore. PM or send an email and I will tell you were to meet me.
OMG!!! Shame I don’t have time to get to the Jersey Shore!
just wanted to say great episode, loved loved loved solai’s segment, I do feel the need the defend the zombie movies. Although i will never say that zombies are the top down super scary monsters or movies cause they are not. What i will say is that a good zombie movies are not about zombies. there about a persons humanity after humanity has been taken from you and your world.
so for all to hear fast moving zombies aren’t zombies at all; and a good zombie movie is not about zombies at all…
as always thanks for all your hard work y’all just rock.
Oh, that story about the contrail has been solved. Just a commercial flight.
Now, the question is why it took so long for them to reveal or tell us.

The Zach Efron/Akira thing has been debunked. Sorry, Audra. Maybe they’ll sign Justin Bieber next.
Or Zack Braff. Zack Braff is in everything.
I do feel that when it comes to being a geek, yes I like to think I am one, but at times it always feels like I’m trying to be a geek. I mean I l ike my sci fi and I was into it more when I was younger, maybe it’s parenthood and work, but it seems like I only scratch the surface of various things.
I mean I like D&D (but have never played the original, only vampire the masquerade), I like sci fi but don’t know everything about it. Maybe it’s hard to know what my passion is shrug. Maybe it’s martial arts, comics, etc…Seems like I’m a Geek of all trades, master of none. Does that make sense.
As for the FF series, that’s really what got me into RPG’s and I got the FF series until FF9.
Talking about other eventful gaming moments, does anyone have any others like the death scene in FF7?.
All in all, a great cast and I hope you do more like this in the future.
I suppose I was a geek when I was younger…I remember trying to design an electronic circuit board when I was 10 to mimic the compins in Star trek. Star Trek is also what made me study AI in college/university (got top marks in AI programming and theory).
I know what you mean, Bishop. It’s a lot easier to be a geek when you don’t have a family to look after, a kid to take to the doctor, and a full-time job. I was a big geek for years, but then I had a kid, and while I certainly adore some things still, I don’t get to spend the same amount of time or money on them.
If you haven’t played FFX, you’re really missing out. Beaten it twice and I’m currently starting my first run in ages. It’s aged somewhat for sure, but it’s still a very good game.
But I also like Blitzball. So there’s that.
Anyone who plays something called “fantasy” anything that involves point scales and doesn’t think thea ctivity is geeky is deluding themselves.
It’s basically an RPG where you draw players based one expected performance.
Chuck, on the podcast you talked about an RPG from the 80s where characters had psychological problems.
Where you by chance referring to “Paranoia”?
Fun game, and I ran a session of it, but my players didn’t enjoy the backstabbing element. In the game, by definition everyone is out to get one another.
Favorite line from the intro adventure book “Your team has been assigned to a low-priority suicide mission.” I love that!

A lot off ppl think the FF series went down hill from FFX on. I haven’t played any FF since FF9 because none are available on the PC.
From what I’ve seen though, FF12 was the low point from what I’ve seen on youtube. I would have prolly enjoyed FFX and FFX-2 myself.
Other eventful game moments:
The big revelation in Knights of the Old Republic (first one). I did not see that coming.
Finding out FFXI was going to be a MMO.
Yeah, that’s our argument. But as I’ve said, it was socially acceptable (prolly because of the money it generated) and thus not considered too out of the norm.
FFX is one of my top 5 games. Period.
FFXII isn’t a bad game unless you’ve played an MMO, because it’s basically a single-player MMO. It’s also really long. I think a good RPG length is 30-40 hours. I was at 42 with the end nowhere near when I gave up and moved on. I can’t believe I played it that long, to be honest, because not much had happened, but the battle system could be fun for people who like the idea of an MMO (or just hands-on instructions for minions) without playing with others.
Which I can get behind.
I’ve started FFXIII and it’s super-linear. I hear it gets better, though.
X? Really?
Ugh
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA
Now you
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA
I think the game is really quite awesome. I think it’s the last truly great FF game (so far), and while it’s definitely a bit dated now, it’s still a lot of fun, especially once you know the twists and turns already.
My love of blitzball is indefensible, but I think FFX is the gold standard for FF games. Snappy tactical battle system that encourages you to use all party members(!), great art direction, great music, well voice-acted, and a strong overall plot that doesn’t pull any punches by the time it’s all said and done.
BTW, anyone wanting to hear a good description of a modern D&D game should check out the official podcast. Pay particular attention to the example games by the PvP and Penny Arcade and Wil Wheaton. First one is here (MP3 link.)
re: Paranoia – That’s totally it! I remember sitting in on a session and finding it just entertaining as hell. In my day it was for the hardest of the hardcore as you really couldn’t put any of yourself into the character: true role playing.
