My random thots:
-Nightwing, wow! That’s a lot of firsts!
-Audra, I got the TV screen far to the right joke and LOLed.
-With $300 I would probably blow it all on video games and video game equipment.
And finally:
Darn! Puts away Vuvuzela
I almost spewed Gatorade all over the stationary bike at the gym when I heard Audra utter the words, “Anna Paquin is a great actress.” I have never seen that woman do anything remotely close to acting in a movie yet, but I suppose miracles do happen. Maybe she finally took a few classes since I have seen her last…
As to the 300 dollars: I would use it to finance my trip to the next GWC meetup!
As to Vampires: There are all kinds of Vampires, somewhere out there amongst the myriad of books and movies and such…You will find a Vampire you like. Some of my favorites are the newer style Vamps such as Kate Beckinsale from the Underworld series (4 is set to release Sept 2011), Violet Song jat Shariff from Ultraviolet, Blade from the Blade series. And on an even stranger bent you have D from the Vampire Hunter D series and Vampire Princess Miyu. The only Vampires I don’t like are the ones that sparkle and the Chinese ones that hop around like pantomime rabbits, to each our own.
There is something out there for everyone, the same with Zombies…
Riddick is the bomb! I wish Diesel was going to be in ‘The Expendables’, oh well… I am excited about the Live action Starship Yamato too but realize it will be a long time coming to America, so I am actually MORE excited about Sucker Punch!!! Every time I see another tidbit it looks even more awesome.
I have to agree with the vampires part, esp with Blade, etc…I just haven’t clicked with the Twilight vampires. Actually, that’s a lie…I can’t get with Edward, the others are fine…I mean that was a cool baseball scene.
$300 - A trip to America or lots of gadgets and gear. Although I’m assuming that $300 dollars wouldn’t get you much…Now £300 converted to dollars might be a little better.
Anna Paquin - I have to admit that it is hard to believe that she was Rogue (I’ve just finished the X-men arc). I’m running out of back issues to listen to.I’ve even downloaded #1 and I haven’t even watched all of BSG.
Following on from Audra’s comment about the eye-shits (!), I had observed a few years ago Pitch Blacks focus upon eyes. All of the major characters are defined in part by their eyes (RIddick has been surgically altered to see in the dark, Johns injects morphine through the tear ducts in his eyes, and the Grue’s see by echo-location), as well as numerous point-of-view shots throughout the movie (especailly during the crash - awesomely done - and the Ridick/Johns face off).
I put this to David Twohy and his reply was: “I really hadn’t considered the eyes-as-a-motif thing until you brought it up, so if it’s there, it came about on an unconscious level rather than an conscious one.”
As far as names for guys go, Dick B. Riddick is up there with Sue.
Thnak you!!! Somebody else who loved vampire baseball. Rock on sir, that’s the moment I bought into Twilight right there.
I searched Google and Amazon and cannot find any Riddick Comics, were they only released with the video games? The games keep coming up in my searchs…
I can’t believe that Dark Horse or some other enterprising company has not picked up on Riddick as a comic series.
With Sean & the gift card story, I flashed on an image of him running through a strip mall, multiple cards in each hand, flinging them around like Gambit.
More Family Ferris Theatre!!
That is all.
Guys, gals, Galaxyranger,
Reminder to call in your $300 answer, the Crüe wants to hear them and share them in the podcast! 214-296-9229.
For $300 I would take a bath in Twinkees…BECAUSE I COULD! (that however isn’t the answer I called in)
The local li’bary only had the theatrical cut of The Chronicles of Riddick(a). Based on this ep’s conversation about Pitch Black, I’m guessing the director’s cut is absolutely necessary for any serious discussion, right?
Ferris Family Theatre will return (and thanx for askin’!). The Muses come when they’re ready, and only then. Never watched PB or Riddick before; maybe one of them will yield a good line or two…
Oh, about the Harry Potter trailer… The reason for removing the blood from Hermione’s hand was because of the ratings board. WB wanted their trailer to be a ‘green band’ trailer so it would get maximum exposure in the theaters. But because of the blood the MPAA was going to brand it a ‘red band’ trailer which seemed outrageous, and would greatly limit its view-ability.
So rather than going through the expense of putting together a new trailer they just removed the blood digitally.
Makes sense, but [citation needed]
Cheers for Audra’s confession! So glad it’s not just me who finds vampires just kind of … uninteresting. Also zombies and, to a lesser degree, werewolves. Neither horror or paranormal romance/urban fantasy excites me.
I still love Buffy and Angel though. Color me inconsistent! I think of them differently, what with the witty Whedon-dialogue and because they came before vampires & zombies were everywhere you turned in pop culture. Now you can’t help but trip over them … Bleah.
I just got to that part of the 'cast. Hmmm, have to think about that. First thing that comes to mind is BOOBS. Strip Club and BOOBS.
Here is a link to the latest discussion on the matter…
I’m thinking i might phone in with Comics, models and jelly babies…be the snoop dog of the comic world snizzle ma dizzle
Dramatic presentation of discovering coffee: The best Beavis & Butthead episode, “Buttniks.”
This is the second time, at least, Audra mentioned Bette Midler scouting her town looking for a crappy little town for a movie. Was that movie possible Drowning Mona? I ask only b/c the movie took place in (but wasn’t filmed in) the town of Verplanck, a tiny hamlet not far from where I live now. Standing in the shadow of the nuclear power plant and the trash-burning generator, Verplanck’s claim to fame is that it was home to a young Mel Gibson in his formative years.
As for the vampire discussion: I don’t think I “like vampires,” but I own complete sets of Buffy and Angel, and most of the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire series. For some of us, the appeal is that the writers have come up with great (human) characters, and thrusting those characters into a world with a different set of rules–where supernatural creatures exist and have to be dealt with–just creates an interesting setting for adventures and development. The quote which Joss has repeated a bajillion times over the years is that he wanted to write a story about “the girl who gets attacked in a dark alley–what if, instead of running away screaming or just getting killed, she was the strong one who fought back?” The point of the story is the girl, not the monsters.
On the flip side, the vampire stories about actual vampires that seem to be most appealing (Angel, Moonlight, Forever Knight) are about vampires who are trying, despite their demonic natures, to be most human. So we’re given protagonists who are nearly-human-seeming but have to struggle against their literal inner demons, as well as the classic limitations about daylight, blood, and secret identities. So they’re less about scary monsters than stories about a character’s struggle against his destructive nature, much like a drama about a self-destructive alcoholic or someone with clinical anger issues or the like. House? The Wire? Rescue Me? I don’t think they’re that different in this respect.
