What is the role of a critic?

Hmm…I haven’t read Ebert in a while, so I hadn’t noticed this. I wonder if his health problems have contributed to his change in mood?

I suspect it’s his mortality. He does seem angrier about bad movies wasting his time.

I like that anger. I HATE feeling like a movie wasted my time.

Let me start by saying that not once has anyone flamed anyone else or attempted to pick apart someone’s opinion with an axe, and on forums that is very refreshing. As for reviews, I’ve tried to review items on my blog before, but I’ve always prefaced the outing with this: I’m not a professional and I will never tell you that something is crap. I would much rather tell you why I enjoyed the movie/book or did not in my own honest terms and let you decide on your own whether you should put your money down. I know that many people look to reviewers as a guide to determine what should be seen or read and what shouldn’t but I’ve always thought that if you listen to critics too much, your diet gets a little one-sided.

the difference between a professional critic and amateurs to me is this … Amateurs only need to review thing they like, because of the need to share how it makes them feel. If amateur critics turns out angry, it’s likely they something he held dear was done poorly, at least to him.

The professionals don’t have that luxury. they likely have to watch and review most every piece of film that is put out there. so maybe they are just mad because they realized choosing this job means watching a lot of things you don’t enjoy at all to begin with. Turning entertainment into suffering. If i were a professional critic, after watching the x^x number of summer horror films will turn me into the darkside, angry at the entire world. so, i really feel for them.

As for those amateur critics who loves to review things don’t dont hold dear and still hate… well… either they want to become a professional, or maybe they really hate themselves to choose to watch so many things they hate…

It is sort of a wonder not more film/tv critics turn into serial murderers…that we know of, huh?

I think… I’d totally watch that movie.

you re right, what was i thinking, if there are more horror movies starring Summer Glau, the world would be a better place.

Hey, that’s how we roll around here, Noob. :stuck_out_tongue:

(No, seriously, it is how we roll around here. Welcome, Galaxy Dallas!)

Where in the world is Stroogie? I hope you’re reading this, man, cause you have, HAVE to start working on this script, stat.

Someone get Summer Glau on the phone too.
