You mean they all look like underwear models?
ETA: Did anyone hear that the captain of the ship in this show is Captain Pike? Little heavy-handed on the homage there, RDM. But cute.

Thats funny. I liked what I saw in the 12 minute preview better then the premise.
As long as we all end up at the same frak party, I guess it does not matter how we got there.
So I just watched the “What Would You Bring Into Space?” clip (YouTube’s frakked up here at work), and caught a glimpse of the ship. Does it look like the Spinny Ship to anyone? Do we finally get the inside story on this thing?
I just saw this on the TV Guide line-up and was wondering about it. So it’s a pilot for a series? And RDM’s? I didn’t get that from the quick little decriptive blurb. I guess I’ll check it out anyway.
I’m actually quite excited for this now. Though of course my local affiliate says that it’s showing that smarter than a 5th grader show, but I hope to any and all divine powers that it’s wrong…
You know. Both of those circumstances say a lot. Have there been any commercials for this show to promote it? I haven’t seen any billboards on the train or anything. FOX. shakes head
I know.
Spouse is confused so far. I am intrigued.
I figure there was probably a frak party for this that I just missed, but without money “Virtuality,” after home-cooked Indian and crepes (hey, it’s a postmodern, polyglot world we live in!) this is what passes for an anniversary party in our house. Anyway, I thought this was a very, very good pilot. I hope it gets picked up, even though it probably won’t be.
I liked it too, and I want to see more. The subject matter reminds me of the best of Philip K Dick, exploring ideas regarding what is real or illusory. The show wants to explore our current obsession with reality TV, which I’d enjoy seeing (personally, I think reality television sucks, and is more manufactured reality than actual reality – the show seems to agree) I would love to see more of this – I sure hope it gets picked up.
Figured I’d make it easy for ya… I searched the Fox website for Virtuality (like a dedicated page for the pilot or something), but all I could really find was the generic email for show comments: askfox@fox.com. I sent them a short email telling them I liked the show… if we’ve learned anything about Fox picking up/renewing shows, it’s that the squeaky wheel gets the grease (I’m thinking about Dollhouse)… so it’s time to get vocal, and send 'em an email, if you’re so inclined.
Now that I’ve watched the whole pilot, my desire to will this show into existence has grown by leaps and bounds. While the pilot isn’t perfect, there is some serious potential, and I really would have enjoyed watching more of it. The mood of it, somehow, is different than anything I’ve seen before. This is truly something I’d LOVE to watch next season.
Is this project seriously completely dead? It seems awfully cruel to have this really intriguing pilot and then, BAM! That’s all you get, suckers!
I am sad.
Yes. I Agree. This could be made into a very good series. and the concept, keeps costs down as there are only so many sets with only fixed idenifiable camera’s outside. lets get it going and let Fox know to keep it.
To start send an email to askfox@fox.com and ask them to pick up the show. just make sure the name Virtuality is in the subject line.
Frak! I always forget that things start an hour earlier here in the Central time zone, so I missed the first 30-45 minutes of the show. I’m not sure if I like it, though I’m willing to give it some time. I’m a bit put off that the ship’s crew and interior look like a floor display for Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and
the way Commander Pike died in the airlock was completely at odds with real science, which sucked the drama out of the moment for me.
So I have gripes. But without cable, what other sci-fi TV am I gonna watch over the summer?
I liked the pilot okay. It was a bit slow, but had a lot of set up to do. I am very intrigued however about the mystery suggested at the end (and I guess by the title itself). However, I’m hesitant to watch a show with a long intricate plot with a clear direction on Fox. Just about when you get hooked looking for answers I suspect it would get canceled…
Cool, thanks for sharing!
That’s why he’s a BDH.
(ETA: Oh, I’m at 1,111 posts. I should make a wish.)
I saw it. Fantastic. Really good. As someone else said, Philip K Dick in a TV show.
Maybe that very science-discrepancy is a telling detail.
I liked it, overall. Didn’t loooove it, but it was a good start. Better than Dollhouse’s start, if I remember correctly.
That in-the-computer villain is such an annoying presence, I’d hate to see more of him. Which I guess is a testament to his effectiveness as an actor.
Watched the show last night (even got my folks in on the action) and was seriously impressed. I intentionally avoided every bit of publicity on the show before hand (the tiny bit there was) and didn’t check out any of the related threads here. I wanted to go into a show with no preconceptions for a change. Wow.
Things I liked:
[ul][li]The show has solid science behind it. No mysterious BSG-style artificial gravity, no instantaneous “subspace” communication, and no far-fetched magical propulsion system. In fact, the pulse drive was really great to see. I know a fair bit about about nuclear pulse propulsion, and I was impressed to see a) it was included at all & b) it was done right.
[/li][li]The reality show within a show concept was great. First of all, I argue that it’s the most plausible part of this show! Like it or not, our culture is totally obsessed with reality TV. If we actually had a long-term space mission, especially one that was corporately financed rather than by national space agencies, I don’t doubt for a second that the reality vultures would be all over it. In its own weird way, I almost wonder if this is an asset for Virtuality. Fox is so reality-crazed, they might actually like the idea of a pseudo-reality show.[/ul]
[/li]
Thing I didn’t like:
[ul][li]It is a huge mistake for this to be marketed as a “movie event.” I mean, if you don’t look at it as a pilot, it just seems like a really poorly written movie with no conclusion. Poor choice by Fox’s marketing division, that may bite the show.
[/li][/ul]
Oh, it wasn’t that bad. The only thing I really had a problem with was how long it took for the air in that little room to evacuate. Other than that, there were no gross errors I saw.
