I know. They didn’t pay that writer enough.
Want to love…hurts so much…
I think, much like election day, I will be up in the air until the moment of truth.
I think I may be sick
OK, here it is. A frame-by-frame breakdown of the new trailer.
I don’t want to know whether I am more worried by the fact that someone did this, or thankful that they saved me the trouble.
I was a fan of the series when TOS was still on the air; I remember rushing to finish my homework on Thursday nights so I could watch it, drawing pictures of the Enterprise in my notebook at school and my friend Mike and I used to play Star Trek in the vacant lots behind our houses, so I’m looking forward to this.
I’m with you on this - I saw the trailer at a midnight showing of Quantum of Solace, but the thing that really struck me was that the actor playing Kirk has bright blue eyes. For better or worse, I so think of William Shatner (brown eyes) as Kirk that it was really surprising. Or was it just me? (Probably.)
Either way, I’ll definitely be going to see it!
Heh. I had already done my own.
“Anton is fantastic as Chekov. He’s from Russia originally and one of our early discussions was that they don’t transpose ‘w’ and ‘v’; that’s not a Russian thing. In fact it’s more a Polish thing. But I was like ‘I think we have to do it anyway’. It’s so what you know with Chekov so we kept what had come before.”
That statement right there ticks me off. We’ll keep this, forget that, seems very half-ass (sorryBarb). It’s like JJ got all these awesome toys and is rubbing it in our faces. “Ha Ha I got to play with Star Trek.” JJ sticks out tongue
Meh. Read #12.
I feel cold.
Aw craaap. I meant #17:
Eric Bana as Nero: the rogue Romulan at the heart of the film. “What was interesting to me was that this wasn’t about the Klingons. It was fun to use the Romulans the way we did. The fact that they hadn’t seen them for so many years, that it so immediately breaks - for anyone who knows - the rules of Trek. We start the movie with Romulans crossing paths with Starfleet and jump right in breaking the rules, which I think is kind of fun. It felt like we had seen so many iterations of Klingons done that this was a way to do something in the familiar vernacular but not so familiar that it felt overdone.”
It seems to me that when it comes to Star Trek the old saw that the devil is in the details reigns. While I am ambivalent about the color of JTK’s eyes, the sop that the writers of anything “new” should throw to the core constituents is not to screw with history, Like - the NC-1701 was NOT the first of its class (as it undoubtedly will be in the movie) and (at least insofar as anybody paying attention is concerned) was not built on the surface of Earth (there’s that gravity thing again). If they want to take some chances with plot and personalities of characters to spark the franchise and get people into the theaters - fine. Just don’t foul up with the inanimate objects (the Enterprise itself being the key, as the most important character in the series), the time line or the histories of the known characters.
OMG LOL !! Wait 'till Frakkintalos sees this one ! Nice Pike.
And as to the Enterprise’s earthbound construction site…what the hell do they do when it rains?! Pull a tarp over the thing?!
Worker1: “Ok, lets get this warp core in before lunch, boys.”
Worker2: “Uh oh, it’s starting to rain. Just prop it up over there by that pile of dilithium crystals and we’ll try again tomorrow.”
They just let it get rusty and hope the foreman doesn’t find out.
Amen bruther! Amen.
Well said.
Also, well said.
I think I’ll have problems with this movie, but it’s Star Trek, and so I’m gonna enjoy it on some level not matter. I’m not a hater—I have a hard time hating any movie. Even the worst SciFi action action movie in the world I’d love more than an average slasher/horror movie for example. SciFi is my genre, and Trek is part of me. So I can’t go wrong with it (I liked ST: Final Frontier and ST: Insurrection even though neither were my favorite).
The is one aspect of JJ Abrams Star Trek that I’ve latched on to and perks my interest: Somewhere it was said that there’s been something missing all along Star Trek post-TOS. And that’s that’s the sense of passion. TNG, DS9, STVOY and ENT all were great in ther own way, but none recaptured the passion of ST:TOS. If this movie can tap into that somehow, then I’m sold. (Even though I’m probably sold anyway.)
Hmmmm.
Just saw this trailer for the new Trek and I don’t know…
The acting seems a little stiff.
I actually like that trailer better…
