Tory's relationship to the Fabulous Four, post-Six of one

It would be an absurd question to ask. Does anybody honestly think it would have any chance of success? I’m sure there are guys out there who’d want to call Tigh “Daddy,” but we, and more importantly they, have had NO reason to believe that Baltar is one.

More to the point, Tigh specifically said, “You don’t have to get on your back.” I don’t know how much clearer he could be. It was almost an out of character PC moment for him. If I were writing this show he would have expected her to do just that if that’s what it took to get them the info they wanted.

Are there any women out there who have not poured on the charm (and not, necessarily, gotten on their backs) to try to get their way at some point? It’s not unusual. In fact, it’s pretty common interpersonal interaction.

Heck, men do it as well, if they can pull it off. It’s just harder, because women tend to be more discriminating.

Yes, there are. Your attitude is exactly what me and casilda are complaining about.

You don’t understand what kind of game she is really being asked to play. Frakking someone is not going to get you “darkest secret” information. They call it sleeping with someone, but it really means playing a risky emotional game where you get the other person to trust you so much, make them think you love them, that they’ll honestly expose secrets that confront their deepest fears.

People don’t open up like that just because they’ve had sex.

If Tory doesn’t get it, then Baltar will more likely figure her out before she figures him out.

I’m sure there are men and women in the world who do that, but there are also plenty of individuals of whatever gender who don’t.

Right, but this does speak to an entire tradition that has constructed sex in just that way.

After a few days mulling it all over, I’m still convinced that Tory’s behavior was not in line with the way characters in general are written on BSG; I’ll agree that Tory hasn’t gotten a lot of development up to this point, but even in terms of cylon sexuality her behavior is somewhat odd. Part of me just wants to blame Michael Angeli for writing the episode and including odd gender dynamics in it as it’s his penchant to do… but part of me dreads seeing this disjunction perpetuated in further episodes. It would take part of what I love best about BSG and just stamp on it… and that has nothing to do with the storyline but rather with the way characters are written.

I’d also like to see Tyrol and Anders actually stand up to Tigh about things… given the preview for The Ties that Bind, it should be quite interesting.

the entire show in a way is predicated on a woman- well, female cylon- using her sexual relationship with a man- baltar - to gain information and access…
in particular to gain access to the colonies defense mainframe- and frak with it…

also, there is a brief spot in season 1 where billy is trying to get information out of dee -about adama- while they are on a date…
that is the only example i can think of right now of a man in the show using a woman for information…

You actually follow who is writing which scripts? You can’t blame him alone, don’t the producers go over those scripts to make sure the writers are staying on target with their bigger plans and their characters as they see them?

Well, unless the writers and producers are reading this forum, or have other people in their lives seeing what we do, then they probably will perpetuate the “disjunction.”

I don’t know what you’re talking about here. The previews didn’t make a lot of sense to me. I think they were suggesting that Chief’s wife figures out Chief is a Cylon and they may kill her.

For those who might avoid even the trailers at the end of new episodes…
Tory’s in an interesting position from what we see in terms of Cally, baby Nicky, and an airlock.
But, as always we have to wait until Friday to figure out what’s really going on. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just in case any Galactica officials are reading this blog I want to pitch a Tory/Baltar idea from the philosophy thread:

Nick suggested they could make Baltar find out he’s a Cylon after writing him into accepting and embracing his humanity, perhaps after he has made a sacrifice and “betrayed” the Cylons in order to save the Fleet. I think it might be a mind-frakk for the audience - after initially thinking Baltar was a Cylon at the beginning of the series (as many people seemed to), then dismissing him as too obvious a choice, it would be a triumph of writing to reveal him as a Cylon, having made him such an obvious initial candidate and then persuaded everyone that he was human.

I’ll add to Nick’s idea to get Tory involved: Baltar might begin to embrace his humanity when he hears one of his disciples praying in her sleep, something like; “God, dear God, please make me a Cylon like Baltar so that I never have to die?” What if he discovers many in his cult believe he could lead them to be accepted by the Cylons and thus made into Cylons? Once he realizes that they’ve latched on to his secret wish Baltar would be more motivated to dig out what he thinks is his humanity and embrace it.

The reverse would happen for Tory when she finds out they want to be Cylons, she would embrace what she thinks is her Cylon nature. And then if Baltar siding more fully with humanity got him to go against his new love, Tory and she’s the one who kills him…

The idea isn’t quite baked yet. Got any more spice to add anyone?

Remember, Adama and Roslin did all that intimidation and used the mind frakking drug that made him think he was drowning when they were trying to find out what he knew. He just never gave in to their methods, which is why they put him on trial so they could get rid of him. He wasn’t originally supposed to win, at least from Roslin’s perspective. He was supposed to be airlocked.

I think there’s more going on here - I suspect we are going to see Tory fall under Baltar’s spell (whatever that spell may be). I think for some reason she was genuinely seduced by him, and when he started talking about music that affected her. Not sure if I’d suggest that she’s going to become a “disciple”, but I think she might form some sort of connection or alliance with him, and through Six this might be a bridge between the Five and the Seven (or those of the Seven that are of a one-true-god persuasion) - so Baltar acts as a link between the different types of Cylon.

However, if Tory does what it looks she like she might be doing in the trailer for the next episode, we might see a rift among the four Tighlons. We might end up with two factions, each consisting of a mixture of human and Cylon (perhaps some of the seven and some of the five on each side). I suggested somewhere else that we might see the losers of the Cylon civil war (assuming Cavill et al are they) seeking refuge with the Fleet and “repenting” in order to use the Fleet to fight back against the instigators of the Cylon “revolution”. I think this would all be rather fun from a storyline perspective.

I like the idea of different factions changing their minds and positions, and everyone ending up just as confused, conflicted and confrontational as they were to begin with, but in a different sort of “configuration of conflict”.

And thanks for the advertising of my dubious theories!

They gave Baltar a mind frakking drug that made him think he was drowning?

Oh dear, I thought I saw all the season 3 episodes. Apparently I missed one.

Did this really happen or is Eftiel trying to mindfrak me?

This really happened - they were trying to get him to admit to colluding with the Cylons.

Can someone give me an episode title to look up?

I had forgotten about that episode too. It wasn’t one of their better ones, overall.

Thanks. I think I missed that one.
