Don’t sweat it bro…our basic choices are face huggers, chest varmints or full fledged Aliens. I think we will see many variants of this and the real challenge will be to break that paradigm and come up with something that is recognizable that doesn’t use one of those three elements.
Other ideas:
Avatar faces on Ripley’s body
Avatars “hatching” from the eggs
Avatars that are themselves facehuggers or chestbursters
Avatars wearing marine uniforms or power lifter
Avatars hiding with Newt
Avatars eating dinner with the crew of the Nostromo
Avatar with android bits and fluids
et cetera…
This was my original idea but the Shatner tattoo on the alien can’t be seen @ 80X80.
I encountered the same problem. The amount of detail needed to convey the Alien franchise is daunting. I tried putting Mal in their clothes, but it looked unremarkable. I tried putting the Alien mouth on him and he turned into a zombie. I tried putting the classic Alien egg behind him and it didn’t read.
Very hard one if you try to go outside the three main items.
I tried the Alien queen giving birth to Shatner. That turned out to be just a blur.
I’m waiting for Pike to wow us.
I suspect he will trade in his Hogwarts scarves for some of Xenomorph skin. 
Only problem is they are a little moist.

I toyed with the idea of Darwin’s head bursting out of Kirk Cameron’s chest, but couldn’t get a good profile picture of Kirk.
I also really tried to put a Darwin beard on this picture, but it kept looking somewhat obscene…

I forgot I had the same problem…having the little squirmer shooting out of Mal’s chest looked more like…his Hammer.
OK, now that literally made me LOL. There may have been spittle.
