The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Frak Party @ 8 PM ET

That’s why we are here.

After LOTR, are we starting Babylon 5?

I think Gandalf broke the staff in person when he went to Isengard, while Saurumon was locked in the tower. I’m not sure about this though.

Night all! I hope I can be here next week for Return of the King but it’s Easter weekend so family stuff may interfere.

That’s what I’m thinking too but I need to check the book.

Night everyone

So you miss to talky bits at the beginning. You should be fine for the big battle scenes at the end of the movie.

this sounds right. and he does have the staff when he addresses the armies of orcs.

anyway, g’night!

Am disappointed that I missed the Two Towers Frak party. I’m consoling myself by watching it this afternoon.

Ok, pulled out my book this afternoon. The Ents attacked Isengard at night right after Saruman’s army left. Saruman was near the gate when they started their attack and was taken by surprise and ran back to the tower. He didn’t use any magic on them but did have machines in the lower tower that he used against them.

Guess they scared the magic right outta the old fella.

It’s because cranking up the Ol’ catapult and loading it with rocks is a lot faster and easier then waving the staff and mumbling a few words…

Weren’t the colors just a representation of their level of power?

Yes. I’m really looking forward to it.

I am ashamed to say this but I never thought too much about LOTR. Sure, I’ve watched them on T.V. once in a while but didn’t think they were all that amazing. when I say ‘watched’ it was more like they were on in the background while I was doing other things, I never really paid it much attention.

I’d just like to say for the record that I am an idiot.

It’s the books. The books have sucked me in. I finished Fellowship of the Ring last night and started Two Towers today. I love them so far. I’m kinda ticked that I waited so long to read them. Why did I never read these before? They’re brilliant! I’m kicking myself that I never paid attention to the story before. Have I mentioned that I’m an idiot?

I am planning to to see the extended editions of the movies after I finish reading the books. Hopefully if you guys Frak these movies again I can be a part of it.

add yet another who is sad to have missed this… AND last week’s?! I’m so not on a roll.

I agree that I would normally be able to make next week but… yeah. Holy Saturday.

However, I’m at a conference the following week so unless something magical happens I won’t be able to join then, either.

Which basically means: do it whenever you want

so, this discussion here spurred me to look for further info on Saruman, mainly related to why he didn’t (or couldn’t?) use magic on the Ents, and then about Saruman and the wizards in general. tuckborough.net says this:
“Saruman had not anticipated that the Ents would rise against him, and he had no idea how to deal with this ancient force of nature. Saruman locked himself in the tower, which the Ents were unable to break. He attacked the Ents with liquid fire and fumes from vents and shafts in the grounds of Isengard. The Ents were enraged and they hurled themselves at Orthanc and Saruman responded with an eerie laugh. This caused the Ents to become quiet and determined. They diverted the waters of the River Isen into Isengard and Saruman’s fires were quenched and his filth was washed away.”

here’s the page on the order of wizards.
I learned a lot but I think I got distracted from what I went there to find.

anyway, as I understand it, magic is more like a deep knowledge of the forces in nature, rather than a “zap and mutter, and things that normally wouldn’t happen, happen” sort of thing. if Saruman didn’t know how to deal with the Ents (and apparently he didn’t regard them at all when he decided to burn the forests) then he had no magic to wield against them. that’s kind of how I see it, anyway. (I didn’t really have a problem with him not using magic against the Ents, but I have wondered why, in the movie, he just frantically looked around at the havoc they wreaked. what I took from it was that whatever magical power he had possessed had diminished, whether from becoming obsessed with machines or from being replaced by Gandalf as the head of the order, or both.)

Oh Yay!!
What are we covering? The whole series?
I have to practice my Londo accent.
I’m very excited. Love B-5.

(Taking a breath)…I think I’ve had too much caffeine today.

I’d really love to cover it all, all 5 years, with the movies interspersed at the appropriate times.

I have to practice my Londo accent.

LOL  I’d love to hear that.

I’m very excited. Love B-5.

Me too. I’ve been dying to do this for almost a year. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, can’t wait.

You always have to start with “MISTAR Garibaldi!”
