And if this song – “That’s Me Trying” – doesn’t make you a little weepy, you’re some kind of prick/Grinch:

“If you wanna be happy” by Jimmy Soul

The Con by Tegan and Sara.

Lesbian folk-pop… nuff said.

Yes! For my money, T&S’s “Walking With a Ghost” is the one everybody in the world needs to hear: perfect synthesis of alt-singer-songwriter and Flock of Seagulls synths.

Not the best rock album is history, but rock and roll certainly never got bigger or better:

The way Animal House and Real Genius skewed Sean’s expectations for college, that’s what Van Halen videos for my teenage notions of adult life.

“Melt your heart” by Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins

just something quiet and soothing

I love the Commuter Railway Blues hahaha

Jane’s Addiction, “Then She Did.” To me, it was always a cool song to listen to when it was snowy. Like the NINE FEET OF SNOW IN MY DRIVEWAY that I’m gonna have to deal with soon.

If you like album rock like Zeppelin and the Doors, and you haven’t opened your heart to Jane’s Addiction, you’re really really totally missing out.

If only they would use the old soundtrack more. Nothing against the Bear, but Stu Phillips’ fanfares are just awesome:

God’s Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash

Saw these cats live last night. Wonderfully dark show. Like being serenaded by the two darker horsemen of the apocalypse. “The Stations,” by the Gutter Twins, featuring both Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli and Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lannegan:

If you like this, you’ll like the whole album.

Atomfilms released it’s top ten funniest videos and Star Wars Gangsta Rap made the list. When this first came out, I listened to it for a week straight.

Okay so today i’ll eat some musical humble pie, for a long time i have railed and i do mean railed against Beatles music, (mostly cause i was forced to listen to near constant stream of it growing up by my mom) but hey sometimes a fella can change; and be horribly wrong and move forward, its simple i saw a movie that showed the variety and extremely well written songs.

so today, my choice is simple

Beatles - Happiness Is A Warm Gun

I was wrong; simple as that; but i still hold my view that there early work wasn’t so special what happened afterwards well, i think it might keep me busy for the next while.

Monday Mornings Mix: Mellow, Moody, Melancholy, and Mild Tunes To Ease Your Way Into the Work Week.

Working our way backward, this second installment is disc four of five:

  1. Converge, “In Her Shadow”
  • Dark, creaking instrumental track from post-hardcore heroes.
  1. Helen Money, “I’ll See You In Hell”
  • Electric cellist.
  1. High on Fire, “DII”
  • Oddly poignant instrumental from stoner-metal icons.
  1. Mastodon, “Orion”

  2. Mastodon, “Elephant Man”

  3. Mastodon, “Pendulous Skin” (edit)

  • “Pendulous Skin” gets tired quick; feel free to skip.
  1. Gojira, “Flying Whales”
  • Evocative track that’s midway between Korn and death metal; very good if you’re into that kind of thing, but I’d also be glad to find an instrumental version of this.
  1. Low in the Sky, “How to Make a Paper Hat”
  • Melodic soundscape; some real music from the cat who remixed the GWC theme as outtro music.
  1. Converge, “First Light”
  • Super-dark guitar instrumental; more vibe than melody.
  1. Giant Squid, “Metridium Field”
  • Epic sludge track, mostly instrumental, with some horns buried beneath the guitar and keys. Kinda like a lazy version of “In A Gadda Da Vida.”
  1. Yes, “Heart of the Sunrise” (edit)
  • Lose the first two minutes and last two minutes of this track, and you’ve got a winner. As heard in the strip-club scene at the end of Buffalo 66.
  1. Beastie Boys, “Ricky’s Theme”

  2. Low in the Sky, “A Hum on the Pond”

  3. The Funky Lowlives, “Sail Into the Sun”

  • Innocous electronica.
  1. The Beastie Boys, “Sabrosa”

I remember this song as being waaaaaaaaaaaaay more badass. Like, a little more metal, less Tubes.
