It probably took a few hundred of those years just to build their tech base to what we have now, since they started with pretty much nothing.

How much nuclear physics did you learn in elementary school? The books Eli wrote probably had a lot of the fundamental stuff that we already know in them.

Maybe the original versions of the textbooks were written by Eli, but were later revised by other people.
3B) Alternately, maybe they wanted to keep the original books to honor Eli, but have supplemental textbooks that contain things they’ve learned since then and students have both.
