GDO and MALP telemetry are evidence of two way radio comms. They remote controlled the MALP camera through the gate and got video back.

They’re losing lots of MALPs this episode. The two on the ambush planet, and two unrecoverable on the planets without atmospheres.
Sidearm gag may be my favorite line in Season 1. I think it was improv on set, and I bet people cracked up a few times on it.
