Starbuck: Lost in Castration

Steve, is this what you were thinking of?

If my first post (it’s on page 1) came off like I was offended, I wasn’t. The post was just so over-the-top, I didn’t know what to make of it. I’m a young 'un, and I’d never even heard of DB before RDM mentioned him in a podcast.

The high school footballer analogy seems spot on. Dirk=Al Bundy.

Maybe i’m picking corn out of poo, but am I alone in thinking it’s quite a laugh that DB has his own website, forums and THEY ARE ACTIVE??? WTF??? What’s even funnier is the fact that there are 17k members.

So I fed my curiosity and looked at some of the threads. Once again WTF???

I know this is the interwebz and everybody is entitled to their opinions. Also I’m not in the business on ripping on people for different opinions and such. But some of the crap that’s spewed on those boards is mind boggling/weird. Like the little gem below.

Hey that’s an insult to Al. Plus DB never scored 4 touchdowns in one game for good ole’ Polk High!!!

Yea i found his comments short sided and silly. I went looking for it cause Chuck brought it up on the 'cast. At first i remembered it as Richard Hatch and i thought that sounded really odd of him to sound so bad then i recalled that Dirk and Richard are different people.

i think Dirk is just sore that he wasn’t part of the new BSG world.

Well I saw him in ATEAM and it was campy but that what it was all about. I also saw him in bad scifi with Medical Center’s Chad Everett and that guy who was married to Kristie Ally and was in the Hardy Boy mysteries. (I know I know, I’m dating myself hopelessly. ) Was he good in it, well no Oscar here. The character was what it was not that great either.

Heck I remember him with Strother Martin in an earlier scifi film where he was being turned into a human snake. Think it was Called HISS or something like it.

It’s just sad he didn’t get further after ATEAM. He could have played a great counter balance to Hatch’s Zarek.

Lol too true. But I bet he’d join No Ma’am!

I haven’t commented on this thread because I read this article ages ago and pretty much have nothing new to say. The guy comes across as a neanderthal who is projecting non-issues into what amounts to his feeling annoyed and angry that he has no part to play on this show (Richard Hatch, for all his complaining before the show, came around and played a pretty important role in the new show. And after hearing him on GWC, though he comes across as a pretty intense guy, he seems like, indeed, a pretty upstanding dude).

Anyway, I just wanted to comment specifically on your post, Chuck, to say that you, too, are a pretty upstanding dude. You are a gentleman and a scholar, sir. My hat goes off to you.

I doubt anyone was offended, Gachnar. As SeelixSeesAll said: this is GWC. It’s all good.

Some of those arguments to strain credulity. Advertising is inversely proportionate to suckitude? How’s THAT work? (The first poster on that thread is obviously an Arrested Development fan. Hmmm…that would be all right with me. NO TOUCHING!)

Was DB too bitter to even try for the part of Brother John Cavil? DB certainly is No.1 in his own head :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh??? Forgive my confusion, but at seven, even I knew Starbuck was a caricature of a character. Cigar smoking, womanizing viper pilot??? That wasn’t manly, it was an obtuse attempt to shrowd homosexual tendencies and insecurity. It was about as hetro as Top Gun. I’m sorry Mr. Benedict, but if we think chastising forward movement and romanticising the past is the answer then we’d still be OK with slavery and misogyny. Many shows of the seventies were chintzy and lacked substance (I’m looking at you Mr. Spelling). Modern TV and fandom has been transformed (I call it the Aaron Sorkin effect) because modern viewers either watch crap reality shows or well written programs that make your brain work. We grew up Mr. Benedict and took TV with us. You can rail against whatever you want, but there’s no turning back.

Huh? You really think so? I have to admit I had minor crushes on both Benedict and Hatch back in the 70s, but I don’t really think that the network intended them to have crushes on each other. Not such a bad idea in principle though:p

It’s kinda like you guys who wish Caprica and Boomer would develop crushes on each other!

Just a little bromance…

here’s another parallel to the old Starbuck vs new Starbuck debate :

Here’s Dirk on a Brit radio show about the time the miniseries came out. It seems his reactions were based on reading the original script. At the time of this, he still hadn’t seen the miniseries.

Ever since Katie Sackhoff almost directly quoted the above post from this forum during the “last frakin special” i consider the matter closed.

Me too. All in favor of me closing this thread for good?

I was just braggin’ that she quoted from here…

Yeah… your right… I second the closing of this thread

So moved. Closed. If anyone would like me to reopen please PM me.
