It would have been so great if the same actress played Saavik in II, III, IV and IV. (Valeris is essentially Saavik). And that way this betrayal would have been more dramatic.

Yeah Nimoy said he enjoyed playing Spock at this point in Spock’s life because he would let out some emotions now and then.
My son just walked into the mindmeld scene and began reciting Spock’s line. He makes me proud.

When this movie was in the theater I don’t remember any image flashes to the conspirators when Spock was doing the mind meld!!

They were added for the 2003 release.
According to Memory Alpha, that was the intention, but they thot that she was too popular of a character for such a betrayal. The alternate theory was that Kim Cattral didn’t want to be the third actress to play the same role. Kirstey Alley (depending on which version you want to believe) either wanted too much money or thot she wouldn’t look good in the tight outfit. Saavik 2.0 (whose name escapes me) was never considered for the role.

That was added in the 2003 DVD release, as were a few other changes like the closeups of Bones and Kirk during that scene. I liked it better the other way.

There was a piece of music played for meditation at the Good Friday service I went to and it was beautiful but it made me feel tired. And somewhat sleepy. It could also be that it was late afternoon, and I always feel tired then.
