Star Trek: The Next Generation 7x01 Descent, Part II

BORG BRAWL!! PILLOW FIGHT!!

so - do you guys think Lor was “sincere” about loving Data, or was he trying to manipulate him?

Lore had sincere emotions in previous episodes he was in.
But not this one (or Part I). Just manipulating Data I think. (Despite Lore’s last words just then)

Picard. Kill the Borg now. Don’t screw up yet again.

Geordi just connects with machines… data, hugh…

OK. I do like part II better than part I. That said, it’s definitely one of the weaker 2-parters, imo.

I’d imagine that the Crusaders, Inquisitors, and Jihadists of all stripes would disagree.

(I sense you and I disagree,

In this case, at least, I was being facetious. :stuck_out_tongue:

this came up with Warehouse 13 too right?)

Warehouse 13? I don’t recall any major moral quandaries coming up recently.

Yet, not so good with the ladies.

Notice how tiny the emotion chip is here. And then notice how big it is in Star Trek: Generations. Star Trek inconsistencies? Whut?! No

Mrs Frederick this week, and Jinx’s response to her? and if it wasn’t you who was I disagreeing with?

It’s all a matter of perspective, Luke… oh wait wrong franchise.

But why can’t it be both? Emotions and family are complicated, particularly where they intersect.

Yeah, the admiral’s gonna be pissed.

Leah Brahms.

Yeah. I agree. Something quite off with this episode. I do generally like Lore’s character, but him as a “Black Hat” villain is going over the top.

So:

In an early draft, Barclay took the place of Ensign Taitt. The change was made due to availability and cost issues.

I’m glad they didn’t use Barclay. It’s nice to have some fresh faces on the bridge, and it’s not like that many black human women get screen time in this series, much less blow up an enemy with a star.

Nothing inconsistent about that. Lore used up most of the emotions, thereby wearing down the chip. Computers work like bars of soap, right?

Oh, I’d forgotten about that.

I’m still right. And you know it.

It can totally be both. And that was the neat thing in previous Data/Lore episodes. But in this one, Lore just, as I said, comes across as a Black Hat bad guy.

Yeah, I still think of him as a petulant child more than a real villain.

Exactly. There’s no depth to Lore here, he’s just a cardboard bad-guy. Really, it didn’t even have to be him, it could have been any random character that could manipulate Data in that way.

Actually, looking back now, you were arguing with ATGreat, although I did disagree with you after you’d already gone offline.

Well I knew one of you guys was wrong…

(though obviously, sleep matters to me more than it does to the character in that cartoon…)

How sad that you’re now wrong about something else.
