Since when does Deanna have the authority to relieve anyone of duty?
“Water.”
“Specify temperature.”
“I don’t care. Just give me water.”
mmm, glass full of steam.
Deanna does and wears whatever she wants. You know that!
When it comes to Reg? I think she always can. We don’t really see that many other people who she would need to, do we?
Or so we assume. It’s just as likely that scientists of the 24th century will look at Hawking in the same way that he would look at Madame Blavatsky.
No, I meant that she’s the ship’s counselor. At best, she’s an advisor. Shouldn’t the decision to relieve someone on psychiatric grounds be left to the CMO?
I for one wish that were a bigger part of the show in general. Americans are very squeamish, illinformed and predjudice when in comes to pyschology and mental disorder. Star Trek had an opportunity to fight that and did not.
Still not understanding how anyone has any kind of perception within the matter stream. Aren’t your eyes and brain a group of non-contiguous particles at that point?
Yeah I was just saying to a friend today that I wish my pedagogy training dealt with mental health issues in students because I’ve had to deal with that much more than with how to lesson plan. And a lot of times I feel useless.
Heh. There was a force field around the transporter pad, and yet that guy’s leg fell off the platform.
While expressing his fear of transporting, Barclay asks La Forge, “Commander, has anything strange ever happened to you during transport… anything out of the ordinary?” La Forge answered dismissively, “No, not really.” However, in an episode the previous season, La Forge himself was involved in a transporter malfunction that transported him and Ensign Ro out of phase with the rest of reality. They were reported missing, and presumed dead. They ultimately rematerialized in the midst of their own memorial service.
Obviously, his leg had more force than the field
But that wasn’t a transporter… that was the Romulans!
In the Star Trek TOS movies people actually moved and talked during the transporter effect.
Fundementally the transporter was a brilliant idea on Roddernberry’s part.
It lets you move from one scene to another across great distances without any transition scenes. Genius!
True enough. Memory Alpha is usually better about such things. :eyebrow:
but the Romulans were sneaky… using the transporter. And the other beam, too, to try to blow up the Enterprise. Naughty Romulans.
That happens a few times during TNG too. Annoys me every time.

And it saves money, since you don’t have to land or take off.
I remember as a kid watching Space 1999. Even then I realized "oh, they should have had a teleport or something. Now the gotta show those Eagle shuttles takin off and landing again. Then next cameBSG TOS and Vipers looked cool so that was a win. Vipers trump transporters.
