For me, it was because he was kind of a dick when it came to management. He was rude to everyone under his command, IMO.

Totally have to disagree. He was a much more in depth character than Scotty ever was.
Though, the Enterprise D was MY ship, the one i grew up on.
Odd how the show originally wasn’t gonna have the chief engineer being a main character.
I like that the Enterprise has an enlightened view on children in bars.

It’s interesting. Really is an age gap between the perspective of those who grew up with TOS and those who grew up with TNG.
I love TNG, but I’ll never the same affection for it that I had for TOS.

Yeah though I wasn’t super into any TV as a kid, when we watched Trek it was TNG and DS9.
