Someone give me a scence check? (Or you tube part number check?). I’m out of synch.
Excellent explanation of why you can understand how a language works without being able to communicate
At least they didn’t hold him there longer than four hours.
They might have had to consult a physician.
I’m at part 4 4 minutes in, Picard and the alien (sorry forgot name) are talking by the campfire
Scene: Fireside w/injured alien and Picard Gilgamesh Story
Interestingly, I’ve been reading some New Frontier comics lately. But it’s mainly a novel series.
Thanks! (Dathan is his name.).
Ah, great moment. Picard understands.
I have some. I still haven’t finished ‘Kindred’ and I haven’t even touched ‘Left Hand of Darkness’ to try and finish it yet. I think I need to switch to audiobooks otherwise I’ll never get around to finish any of these.
As one good example of Deanna being useful, she has a particularly interesting conversation with Picard about the nature of communication between aliens in the episode with the Shelliac. The cup of tea could mean cup, glass, liquid, wet, hot, etc., and that’s only because most of us view our surroundings the same way.
I always found that fascinating.
Read!!! (or listen as the case may be)
Picard’s not a good storyteller? Someone’s too modest…
Great YouTube comment:
Picard. His shirt ripped open.
Stewart is such a good actor that it’s totally beleiveable when he says “Oh, I’m not much of a story teller.” when we know full well Sir Patrick is an amazing story teller.
This is reminding me of Audra’s mythology story time from the recent podcast.
Right. He could recite a packing list and I’d listen.
I know. I know. shame
“He who was my companion through adventure and hardship is gone forever.” …yeah it’s hokey that Dathan dies at that exact moment, but it totally works.
giggle
This episode is also notable as it is the only time a phaser beam is emitted from the main photon torpedo tube. It is admitted to be a post-production mistake in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion. Of the mistake, Rick Berman said the producers received hundreds of letters from fans pointing it out.
