That’s true.
So here’s a long long scene with two characters that are guest stars, but it works!!!

“Well, if that’s the way it is, I don’t know why anyone’s bothering to try to save your planet at all. If its time has come, let it die. Where is the difference, Timicin? Where?”
Such a powerful statement. Great line with great delivery.
Great acting job by Dr. Charles Wincseter (his MASH name). I’m blanking on his real name,
David Ogden Stiers
It’s so great. And somehow so powerful coming from Luxanna who is typically the frivolous, unreasonable one.
This part is insane. They’ve already declared him dead, so they ignore any further input from him.
Who can take a culture with such ridiculous hairstyles seriously?
Thanks.
Uh Oh. Admiral Cain on board!!
So …at this point have we not seen Ensign Ro yet in the series?
Timisin: My daughter, I wanted to live, but now, seeing you’re aweful hairdo…I really want to die right now.
From Memory Alpha:

[li]Michelle Forbes’ performance in this episode was instrumental in her casting as Ro Laren later in the series. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion)

Once again, Stiers acting. Really amazing. This episode really works emotionally.
Ah! That makes sense. It wouldn’t make sense for her to be in this bit part post-Ro.
It would have been nice getting a resolution (pardon the pun) to this episode. Did their world get saved? Did they eventually give up this euthanasia custom?
Badger. You know what I’m gonna say right now. There’s no avoiding it. There’s no stopping it. Prepare yourself …
… It’s Always A Love Story!!
I think they get attacked by Cylons, but Cain lives and joins the Colonial Fleet when she grows up.
WWJTKD? from YouTube comment:
Great episode. What I like about this episode is that it is not? cut and dried. As Aegida01 pointed out, both sides make very good points in their aruguments. What I also like is how the outcome is vastly different from what it would have been were this a TOS episode. If it were Kirk, he would have no doubt sided with Lwaxana, and would have been potrayed as being right. Here the matter shows that things aren’t so cut and dried.
Personally, I imagine Kirk would have given an impassioned speech and basically made them give up this insane tradition, possibly instilling some wholesome American values along the way. And Scotty would have fixed the star by reversing the polarity and giving her all she’s got.
After travelling back in time 150,250 years.
What would James Kirk do?
Kirk: Timisin, I need to talk to you in private.
Timisin: Certainly Captain. Shall we go to your ready room?
Kirk: Uh…no…I don’t have one of those. Let’s talk in the elevator.
(In the elavator).
Kirk: Mister Timisin. The Federation has a technology that will solve all your problems. It’s a violation of the Prime Directive to share it with you, but my heart tells me it’s the right thing to do.
Timisin: You…you mean you have a technology to save our Sun from dying?! That’s so generous of …
Kirk: No (smirk). No, nothing like that. We have a thing called a “hair piece”. We humans use it to cover up our bald spots.
Timisin: Oh. Are you wearing one?
Kirk: Whut?! NO!! Of course not. Why would you think that?
… by the way, that Luxanna Troi looks exactly like my Nurse Chapel. Weird…
Totally. Really good episode and really holds up.
