Most of the time he “writes” them with other authors. For example, Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens, who happen to be very good. I recommend the omnibus titled ‘Odyssey’ which consists of three novels: “The Ashes of Eden”, “The Return” and “Avenger”.
Thanks for the recomendation! I will give them a try.
Yeah, there is no way Shatner knows enough about the backstories of the various Trek franchises to write those novels on his own. Lately he has been giving the Reeves-Stevenses more explicit cover credit, I think. I read “Ashes of Eden” and “The Return” but stopped when it became apparent that Shatner had no intention of doing the same…!
i guess everytime i read about how a novel features cross overs from Kirk to TNG/VOY/DS9 eras i have issues swallowing the pill. Thanks to Trek, i’ve officially had one too many time travel stories.
I recommend The 34th Rule. Exceptional story. I highly recommend getting it in Audiobook form as Armin Shimmerman reads it. He does a great job.
I’d recommend the Dominion War series, books 1 and 3. They are about what the Next Generation crew do during the Dominion War. Books 2 and 4 are basically expanded novelizations of the beginning of Season 6 of Deep Space Nine.
I’d also recommend the DS9 relauch series, starting with Avatar.
By the way, I tried really hard to find a copy of ST:DS9 Fallen Heroes, but I couldn’t find one.
So I thought maybe Audible will have it, so I finally signed up and used the GWC free book, and there it was, ST:DS9 Fallen Heroes just few clicks away.
I have started listenning, and the Narrator is none other than Rene Auberjonois, a.k.a Odo!!!
It so happens that the book starts off with Odo making an journal entry complainning about having to make a journal entry. It is pretty amazing.
Has anyone read (and would recommend) the Myriad Universe books? Sort of an “Elseworlds” for Star Trek, I gather. I am intrigued by the idea of seeing the Andorian first officer from “Yesteryear” (TAS) take Spock’s place in the movie series, but not sure I’m intrigued $15 worth…!
I haven’t read many Star Trek books, but both of these are great and get great reviews on Amazon also.
Prime Directive - Amazon Link This is a TOS book, but excellent writing and good story, always though it would be a good movie.
Federation - Amazon Link This is a crossover, it links TOS and Next Gen, very good I think it could have been the story for the movie “Generations”
I read both. I liked Prime Directive because it sort of went off the map with the characters and storyline. Not your typical Star Trek novel.
Exactly, and I believe both are written by the same person. Judith Reeves-Stevens and Garfield Reeves-Stevens
my favorite trek novel of all time–A Stitch In Time by Andrew Robinsion. Garak himself! an awesome read takes place after ds9 ends and it tells the majority of garak’s backstory
IDW Publishing started doing a Myriad Universe comic book called The Last Generation. It looked good enough for me to pick up and Issue #1 was a good read. I’m very tempted to go off an get the first book now.
