Took a quick spin through the FAQ for the show, and Nechayev is one of the canon characters that they use.
Yeah, my DS9 knowledge is hit-or-miss, so I have a hard time figuring what is canon, what is EU, and what is just them.
Special effects and makeup is kind of crap, but the story and acting is surprisingly good. I like it.

The war with the Dominion ended in the last few episodes of the DS9, IIRC. There wasn’t any information about the aftermath in any of the other shows or movies, AFAIK.
