I can totally relate. I always felt so outside of the “norm” and wanted so very much to be part of it, I didn’t want to allign myself with those who were “not normal” as well. I’m much happier now that I have embraced the truth.
So Say We All! this is exacTly where I spent most of my life. and even though I still can’t consider myself a completely “out & proud” geek–mainly because my geek cohorts are all so far away --I’m so glad to have found you all here! hugs and kisses all around!
You and The GF would get along swell. I only recently convinced her to watch BSG, and of course she loves it.
I just watched First Contact (I know, I’m behind) and here were the thots I jotted down with no particular coherency other than they were what I would have written in a frak party

[li]Admirals are always stupid, aren’t they.
[/li][li]I quite enjoy Worf’s “Perhaps today is a good day to die”. Oh Klingons. Awesome.
[/li][li]What was that, a Borg sphere?
[/li][li]So when was Worf the captain of the Defiant? I’m confused.
[/li][li]Borg Earth is pretty darn creepy.
[/li][li]It is so odd to see the Enterprise crew with guns. Very, very odd.
[/li][li]Cochrane is kind of hilarious.
[/li][li]Drunk Deanna reminds me of some of my friends. Fun!
[/li][li]Borg making the Enterprise its own makes the Borg scary again. And the Borg queen seducing Data undid that.
[/li][li]If the Borg still depend upon the organic to survive I don’t understand how they can just spacewalk like that.
[/li][li]Worf shooting the other guy is all kinds of wonderful.
[/li][li]Lily’s onto Picard. Good on her
[/li][li]Data definitely faked me out there.
[/li][li]Happy Ending! Yay!

Kirk wasn’t.
What was that, a Borg sphere?
First appearance ever! Not the last though.
So when was Worf the captain of the Defiant? I’m confused.
It happened on DS9. Best not to think about it too much unless you want to spoil yourself.
Borg making the Enterprise its own makes the Borg scary again. And the Borg queen seducing Data undid that.
Really? I thot it made sense. Obviously, the Borg view perfection as the union of organic and technological. Usually, we see it from one direction only, organic to cyborg, but here we see it the other way around.
If the Borg still depend upon the organic to survive I don’t understand how they can just spacewalk like that.
Exposure to space would basically freeze-dry the outer layer of skin, but that’s not really life-threatening necessarily. Keeping the cells oxygenated is really the only issue that they’d need to address. Presumably, the technologically advanced Borg implants could handle that easily.
I’ve seen all of DS9… but for some reason I don’t remember Worf as captain.
Not that it didn’t make sense - it does. It just made the Borg not scary to me again.
