Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 3x23 "Family Business"

It’s really kind of rare that Star Trek gives us a significant look at the home planet life and culture of a major Star Trek race.

Amok Time in TOS with Vulcans a rare exception.

And this episode with Ferengi.

Telling your mom to take off her clothes…kinda icky

the principle of the thing? oh Bashir and O’Brien.

And here we have the nice alusion to Rom’s technical capabilities.

Cultural biases…

I like the complicity between Bashir and O’Brien.

Cas, you probably don’t watch AMC channel’s Hell on Wheels, but Colm Meany plays a major character as a railroad owner. His acting is spectacular.

I’ve actually seen your tweets about it and am interested, but we don’t have cable so… it’s on the list.

This is really very complex, dealing with having a parent who bucks societal expectations for motherhood, etc.

You like to think about things. You have opinions.
Is that a compliment or an insult?
It’s a fact!

LOVE IT

kinda hard to believable a space faring race could still be this sexist

Do we count ourselves as space-faring?

But one does have the thought that the Ferengi could have so much more success (on their own terms!) if they didn’t keep part of their population out of business.

Kasidy’s hair is… interesting.

I like Rom trying to placate Quark. Even though Quark’s solution is… not great.

not in a good way. she’s a beautiful woman but the future hair ain’t helping

yeah, was that fabric thing supposed to be a futuristic bandanna?

those strips of gold-pressed latinum are heavy - they must have some pretty strong pockets in those jackets

Rom! Backbone! Epic!

rom is a bit over the top sometimes. but i like him

I like Moogie’s distinction between knowing and understanding.

I like that chat with Moogie and Quark. Especially since we see her later, too

And here’s Sisko’s obsession with baseball LOL

Cestus III!! That’s where Kirk fought the Gorn!!!

Awesome, I never made that connection

Ishka’s act is hilarious.
