There are some funky angles alright
The combination of spotlights and odd camera angles on the Earps in the climactic sequences were meant to make them appear as soulless phantoms.

I know I’m putting too much thought into this but anyhoo. They basically never leave the bridge got that. All a mass psionic holo dream. All the people in it are under the control of the aliens. Check. So why the H3ll did that vulcan mind meld work? He never left his place or moved for that matter.
I know I know I’m actually thinking this through, driving that mac truck and the plot hole that is the script.
