Not to mention that that would be impossible to determine, even with the Enterprise computer. There’s no way of knowing if his absence would set off the so-called “Butterfly Effect”. Maybe just standing in a certain place at a certain time would cause someone who did make a major contribution to take a different path…?

The revelation of a son for Christopher was a nice moment. 
Something ‘The Alternative Factor’ was missing was the fun interplay between the characters. This episode captures that. Hence, better episode.

Yes, all kidding aside, the Kirk/Christopher scenes are great. You can see Kirk is looking at Christopher as an almost-equal, a kindred spirit, almost a proto-Kirk.
He’s adding up the child-support he’s going to owe if they bring him back to the future with them.
One of my first computer jobs was changing reel-to-reel tapes used for archiving.
