Star Trek 1x16 The Menagerie

Wine meet keyboard.

My frustration through the majority of this episode(z) was dissipated by the ending. A feel good moment. I love getting a really good aha moment in a show and then get surprised again. Plus, they didn’t expound on the why and wherefore. Spock did the most logical thing to get Pike where he needed to be. End of 'sode. roll credits.

Well, for one thing, the show is primarily very Kirk-centric.
The plot usually revolves around: “they get into a situation and Kirk must make a decision or take an action to save the day.”
One of the key tennants of Star Trek is the idea of Captain far out at sea (or space in this case) and he has to handle things.
I’m making a generalization here, but it’s valid I think.
Also, there’s NEVER any flashbacks in TOS. So the flashback to the Pike days in this ep is very unusual.

Good to know I’m not imbibing alone

Hummina Hummina. 'Bout time the girls got some TOS mancandy!

Yeah, I gotta admit this was never a favorite episode of mine. It’s far too obvious that the plot is contrived to be able to use the old “Cage” pilot footage.

Well, pre-TOS. Those are from Enterprise.

Treating men as sex objects was almost unheard of in '60s TV.

And yet, somehow Kirk rips his shirt in almost every episode…

Long trail beer for me. (Leftover from Finale-night)

Just my luck this wasn’t one of them

LOL. Good point.

I see no bum on plastic chair here, sir.

So I put on The Man Trap. I will post my thoughts later.

To you, Trek historian. :stuck_out_tongue: for me, it works. Consistent for the characters as I know them up to this point. But…Needs. More. Bones.

Be sure to watch Shore Leave, Cas. Talk about wine meet keyboard!

Sorry, these pics are not pantsless.

that is just, um, unfortunate.

I’ll stay with last week’s Dollhouse, hehehe

Good point. Not to mention when he gets supersized, and the crew get to find out what a Greek god wears under his tunic.

And be sure to read back through our commentary on the episode.

“But…Needs. More. Bones.” IYKWIM. Nice.

Yeah, this show fires all all cylinders when Spock, Kirk, McCoy and I’ll say Scotty too are in the plot and get to play off one another.

Interesting you bring that up. Paul’s neighbor certainly doesn’t fit the usual anorexic role for women on TV. Of course, that’s all Whedon, so admittedly we can’t extrapolate that to TV at large…

All this Trek love. basking in glory

Between the meetup, BSG finale, Trek arc looming, and Trek Tuesdays I’m not sure I can take it. I’m ODing on geek drugs. I literally feel euphoric.

Very true. She’s in stark contrast to Eliza Dushku, too.

But yeah. I call Helo/Paul pretty, spouse just says he’s ripped.
