In the ST novel “The Wounded Sky” instead of the Traveller there’s a kinda of big spider-like creature that’s super intelligent and she manipulates the Enterprise’s engines (Kirk’s Enterprise) and they get thrown “Where no man has gone before” like in the TNG episode.
