You know, they never really explore the philosophical ramifications of these children in this episode. These kids are the next step in human evolution, but they’re doomed to live out their lives on this backwater planet to save the rest of us. Not to mention the ethics of the eugenics program in the first place, particularly considering the issues they’ve had in the past.
Imagine if Khan was telepathic? Telekinetic? Lethal to all normal humans that he came into contact with?
They could have done so much more with this.

He’d have sickbay make an antidote for the aging problem. And then he’d test in by using it on himself and it would reverse the aging process.
Then he’d deliberately use a coded channel that the Romulans had broken in order to fool them, and then escape. And the Commodore would apologize for being an ass, and reliving Kirk of command earlier.
