I don’t understand why they need to pull this thing the whole way. It’s got to be out of the planet’s orbit by now. They could leave a beacon, go rescue the Captain, and then come back and finish the job.

If they were 10 seconds from lethal doses of radiation, wouldn’t all of them be on the verge of death? It’s not like radiation is perfectly safe and then suddenly lethal.

It’s not physics. It’s just common sense. Asteroids that close to a star are going to fall into it or get beaten to dust by the strong gravitational fields.
