hey, that was James Morrison, 24’s Bill Buchanan!
Easy as eating Pancakes, need i say more?
I like your word better than mine! I’ll use Tigh Borrent from now on.
I’d have to say McQueen hands down. So many fascinating characters were created in the show from the in-vitros to the silicates. I can’t believe Fox did such a terrible job with the show. It’s no wonder it was canceled; It was never on, just about everything preempted it.
I got a couple things from Netflix that I gotta watch before I check out SAandB. I need to watch the Season 1 finale of Hereos and I gotta watch “Stand and Deliver”. My with was watching that episode of South Park with me that had Eric Cartman being Eddie J Olmos in Stand and Deliver. And she never saw Stand and Deliver, so I figured I’d enlighten her.
Yeah I never realized EJO was in a porn flick once!
Calculus porn is the best.:
Integrals, differential equations, Fundamental theorem, Vector calculus, Matrix calculus, Mean value theorem, Chain rule, Implicit differentiation,
Improper integrals (IYKWIM!), trigonometric substitution, partial fractions …
oooo baby…I’ll be in my bunk.
Oh, it’s that movie where he plays the teacher. Anyway, you know, I thought from the title that maybe he really stood and delivered. Shutting up now…
You have sold me. I’ve been meaning to give this series a watch, but it always falls off my que. How many episodes are there?
Only one season. About 23 episodes.
I picked this up just a few days ago. I saw it sitting in the used DVDs rack for about 5$. Remembering the favorable opinion I had read on this series on this thread, I picked it up. It must have been my lucky day because “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” was sitting right next to it for only 5$ as well—one of my favorite movies, right alongside “Goonies” from when I was a kid.
I think the show had some great ideas though I haven’t watched it all yet. My thots so far:
-
West annoys the craap out of me. I wouldn’t be sad to see him go.
-
The Invietros, and the questionable morals it must have taken to breed them for soldiers fascinates me. In fact, I think it’s one of the most interesting aspects of the show so far.
-
McQueen is awesome.
-
I wish the actors were a little bit older. They all just look way to young.
I have some minor nitpicks about some of the dialogue and some of the stuff on the military side, but overall, for 5$ it’s a pretty decent show.
Hm. He’s like your average annoying West Point poster boy? I could see that.

Hell yeah, this series ended way too soon, there was much potential with the Invitros.
- McQueen is awesome.
He’s certainly the real star, not West. Have you seen the Chiggy von Richthofen episode yet?

I don’t remember it very well, but wasn’t it like some of them just came out from high school and some others were conscripts? I mean, if they’re new recruits, they would actually be very young, wouldn’t they?

Would you care to elaborate?
I found that they tried very well to integrate military … hm, what shall I call it? - traditions? legends? - like quotations from the Civil War and WWI, even though at other times it bordered on cheesy, like sometimes, they’d overdo their WWII references. And it wouldn’t have hurt to dump 20th century Navy uniforms for something more futuristic. The sergeant from Full Metal Jacket had a nice cameo, though.
The only thing that struck me as outright silly is that they’re elite pilots and elite infantrists at the same time. Shouldn’t that be like totally different specialties?
Well yes, but he primarily annoys me because he has put several of his comrades at risk in just the few episodes I have seen.

Not Yet.

Just a personal preference. I just feel that as officers, they would be about 4-8 years older.
Would you care to elaborate?
I will, but first I am going to watch the whole series, so i will lay out all my gripes at once.

SGT Emry is a very cool dude. He has a very interesting and at times funny show called Mail Call on the History channel. He is a good guy. He filmed an episode at the Firebase I was at in Afghanistan.

It’s sort of the Marine idea where “every man is an infantryman.” However, I agree, I think they went a bit overboard. They wouldn’t be risking skilled pilots on a ground pounder mission when they have ground pounders.
I have tried to watch, and enjoy, every sci-fi show that has ever come my on network television, SA&B was one of them, but I really enjoyed and the military aspect was intriguing enough it got my dad into it too. I’m not sure who said it, but Fox did do a terrible job with the show, it was always on Sundays, during football season, so it was always being delayed and pre-empted and it made following the show difficult. I noticed that while no one on the show went on to super-stardom, at least half of them went on to bigger and better things, Morrison to 24, De La Fuente is the computer tech expert on Law & Order: SVU, Lanei Chapman had a recurring role on Judging Amy and while bigger and better is debatable in his case, Rowland had a recurring role on Pensacola: Wings of Gold (he must have a dream of being a fighter pilot or something).
Speaking of favorite characters, Rowland’s was mine and I always thought he was an underrated character as the outcast invetro. Some of the concepts reminded me of Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers” and the 90’s film too. I always wondered if perhaps there was some inspiration there. I forgot how cheesy 90’s television intros were, it sorta reminded me of the intro to Seaquest DSV. I remember specifically the episode where they rescued a downed Chig pilot and Chapman’s character tried to give it water and it ended up vomiting green stuff and dying. It was a weird moral quandry and it was cool.
What a great first post! So many cool things about this series! Welcome!!!
FYI this is definitely on the Netflix list… so it had better live up, GR, if I’m disappointed in it I’m holding you responsible!
Do let us know what you think!
I think she’s serious GR. Did you see the look her avatar is giving you?
Let me give you my interpretation:
