Liked Beyond Black Mesa, and Outside Aperture. REALLY liked Cargo. Thanx Samurai Jack!

You’re welcome!

Another Vimeo Staff Pick, this one from July, helpfully featured this week on You Tube Geek Week. I certainly missed it.

This ominous short reminds me very much of this summer’s I Wear the Black Hat: Grappling with Villains (Real and Imagined) by Chuck Klosterman. He argues (persuasively?) if Batman were actually real, he’d be reviled by an alarmed and fearful populace.

Short starring Thomas Jane as The Punisher…

//youtu.be/bWpK0wsnitc

Cool… And I like the Ron Perlman cameo.

Saw this a while back on another site, and thought it was very cool. Very ominous, you have no idea of the flying man’s origins, motives, or it’s idea of justice. Does it even understand our laws? Does it consider itself above the law, or a new extension of it? I believe this is some of what Clark’s father may have feared happening, a being of immense power dispensing on the spot justice with no regard for life or the law.

Yeah that is cool.

Did you notice they don’t actually have “The Punisher” in the title or movie? I think Thomas Jane wrote, produced, acted, and directed this fan flick. They didn’t or couldn’t get an endorsement from whoever owns the movie rights to the Punisher. Still, you know who it is… and Jane’s still got it!

I love that he is a Punisher fan who got to play the Punisher.

He wouldn’t star in a sequel to the original Punisher movie he was in because he felt that it was written poorly and untrue to the character.

Call me easily entertained and pardon my enthusiasm, but much gratitude to Vimeo staff picks again. I did not know Netherlander Matthijs Vlot, masterful editor, was even out there. Non-SF shorts performed by a cast of SF dozens and countless classic movies. For massive bonus points, name the movie each clip is from as they appear. Try to see if you can keep up.

Here’s a few earlier efforts. There are many more and one to save for Christmas time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall, various others, singing Lionel Ritchie’s Hello
Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey singing Radiohead’s Creep
Cast of Jungle Book singing Guns and Roses’ Welcome to the JungleVarious scat singing Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther Theme Todotodo
YouTube exclusive: Cast of Titanic singing ABBA’s S.O.S.

Bromance meets Star Trek: humorless humor, profanity, gross out gags, hot chicks, even “BROS FOR LIFE!” I feel guilty and unclean even watching it. There’s no view count… Am I the only one who has watched it? Wouldn’t that be embarassing? When is episode two?

I would not mind seeing more ‘Red Shirts’ episodes…

It took Vimeo three days to bestow Staff Pick status on this and alert the rest of the internets.

I don’t quite know what is happening story-wise in this short…

presumably the girl narrator is a robot who has grown tired of the masses of violent, noisy humans
followed next by seeming robots who are not robots but violent, noisy human soldiers inside exoskeletons (See Aaron Beck: K E L O I D II for the designs)
teamed beside other soldier robots, who are really robots, all who are on a ferocious manhunt for yet other robots, who don’t look at all like robots but mannequins made out of spare parts, who have gulp built themselves

…nevertheless the confusion is all Bad Ass.
Also, the Singularity will scored to dub step.

THR: Hot Sci-Fi Short ‘Keloid’ Drawing Robotic Heat (Exclusive Video) - already snatched up to be a feature film!

Off topic, but in this instance science fact more awesome than science fiction (and embedded Vimeo is more awesome than embedded YouTube). Also available in YouTube 4K resolution which is more awesome than any embedded streaming.

David Peterson does it again!

Another “Singularity = Pandora’s Box Of Evil!” effort not too far from the premises of 2011 indie Travelling Salesman or Johnny Depp’s upcoming Transcendence. BSG still did it better. Slow paced so hang in there for the first seven minutes!

Also, while this short is two weeks old, Vimeo deploys its new HTML5 player today - tech specs: Vimeo: Staff Blog / Introducing the New Vimeo Player
You should be impressed with the scaleable performance on a crappy tablet or phone. I sure was with my crappy tablet.

The bottom up digital revolution continues! Rolling your own Superman short using off the shelf VFX and hardware is pretty popular these days. But this one transcends the rest - 8 million views - at times trumping the wonder of flight that Man of Steel offered with its $225 million budget. When you think that no future flying superhero flick, big or small, can’t help but include a few of these types of shots, that’s wonderful too.
