Okay, 1st here’s a list of 24 Random songs from my iPod.
Note: Several months back my iPod Video broke, and I decided to replace it with just an iPod nano. And I didn’t really feel the need to place ALL my songs from iTunes onto the new Nano (and they wouldn’t fit anyway). So I guess this random sample is interesting it that it represents tracks from albums that I chose to put on my nano (out of many from my iTunes library that I did not). Only 26 albums are on my nano out of 80 in my iTunes. I know it’s supposedly random by it seems like Lord of the Rings tracks show up here at a disproportionate rate.

  1. The Uruk-Hai – Howard Shore (Fellowship of the Rings movie soundtrack)
  2. Mutha’uckas — Flight of the Conchords
  3. The Ride of the Rohirrim – (The Return of King soundtrack)

  25. Business Time – Flight of the Conchords
  26. (Bonus) Still Alive – David Juandrew

Now, this next list is a random from my complete iTunes library of about 80 albums. But even this is not quite representative because there’s lots of albums that aren’t properly linked to the folder where the mp3 is located (cuz I screwed up when transferring to a new computer). But, again the list is kinda relevant because the songs that did make the random list are ones that I made sure to fix the folder problem on (and are therefore ones that I wanted to listen to). Sorry, I know --blah, blah, blah .stop explaining Thot, nobody cares. :o

  1. Dixie – Bob Dylan (Masked and Anonymous Movie Soundtrack)

My list also was from randomly played tracks from my iTunes library, since I mostly use my iPod only for Podcast listening.

I have the Classic 120GB so I can take everything with me everywhere I need it. Without enough storage for all of my music I’d feel limited, and I hate that. I want to hit “shuffle” and have no real idea what’s coming, except to expect something from Billy Corgan once every 20 tracks or so.

  1. Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) <LIVE> - Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Read My Lips)
  2. Toccata, Adagio and Fugue, for organ in C major, BWV 564 (BC J36) Adagio - Simon Wynberg (A Bach Recital)

  8. Saints of Los Angeles - Motley Crue (The Dirt)

  20. the mrbrown show 18 October 2007: how to get a nobel prize - the mrbrown show (podcast)

Funny, the ipod didn’t pick up neither a “Jamiroquai” nor “Kool & the Gang” nor “Imogen Heap”… shucks… ~_~

I love these songs!

How do you isolate the music library from the larger (podcasts et al.) library?

oh, the podcasts are around 2mins give or take, and it’s kinda irritating to keep on selecting the podcasts to listen to one by one when they’re so short (nothing like GWC…heheh)

so what i did was the right click the whole lot of them, choose “Get info”, tab to the 3rd page, you can select the media type (Music, Video, Podcast, Audiobook, etc). Thus you can move the podcasts to the music library (media type= music) and vice versa (media type= podcast) …

Now, anyone can tell me how to arrange video playlists?

Not sure exactly how representative of my musical tastes this is, but here’s mine:

In the smart playlist: Media Kind — Is — Music

A bit baffled, here. How do you guys get podcasts in your music library, like so many flies in the honey? My podcasts are kept with podcasts automagically. Is it an Apple thing?

Odd. That doesn’t work at all. I get nothing.

Weird. Maybe there’s an issue with checked items?

Yeah, that’s it exactly. Nothing shows up in the playlist. I’m on a Mac, so maybe there’s some difference?

ETA: Ah! “Media Kind” not “Kind” (WTF is that distinction?)

iTunes has spoken:

  1. Animal - Def Leppard (Hysteria)
  2. Homelands (Joe Claussel Dub) - Nitin Sawhney (Saint Germain En Laye Café - Disc 1)
  3. Poolshark – Sublime (Sublime’s Greatest Hits)
  4. These Foolish Things - Michel de Villers (Saxophones Saint-Germain des Prés)
  5. Expensive/Cinema Of Pain - Spirit Of The West (Labour Day)
  6. Buried Alive - Avenged Sevenfold (Nightmare)
  7. Red Deer? - John Mann (Acoustic Kitty)
  8. One Love - The Flobots (Present Platypus, EP)
  9. Times Like These - Foo Fighters (Foo Fighters: Greatest Hits)
  10. Nothing To Lose (Isabelle Antena remix) - Thievery Corporation (Versions)
  11. Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt (Tragic Kingdom)
  12. Smells Like Teen Spirit - The Bad Plus (Motel)
  13. Jon Jon - Bart Davenport (Fiscal Apocalypse 2008)
  14. Tabula Rasa: II. Silentium - Angele Dubeau & La Pieta (Arvo Pärt: Portrait)
  15. Serpentine – Disturbed (Asylum)
  16. Brother, Where Are You? - Oscar Brown Jr. (Verve Unmixed, Vol. 2)

  24. Spinning Song - David Popper (Romantic Cello Showpieces)
  25. Fried Neckbones And Some Home Fries (Dan The Automator Remix) - Willie Bobo (Verve Remixed 2)

26 is a tough one. I thought some JoCo for geek cred, or maybe some Colin Hay to represent for Scrubs, but in the end, given that gym music probably gets more playtime than anything else…

  1. To the Rhythm - Graffiti (iSweat Fitness Music, Vol 50: Kickbox Training)

Crap. How are you formatting the playlist?

A bit of brute force I’m afraid.

  1. Ctrl/Open Apple A to select all
  2. Paste into excel in columns, then delete the columns that you don’t need
  3. Cut and past into word. If you merge cells in Excel you lose data, but in word you combine the data
  4. Merge the rows in word
  5. Show formatting and copy a para symbol. Now Ctrl/Option F for find, and replace the para symbol with a “,”. I was a bit anal and did more formatting
  6. Manually add number

As I said, brute force, but it worked

  1. “Let’s Build a Snowman (Reprise)” from Cannibal! The Musical
  2. “Spybreak!” Propellerheads
  3. “Will I?” Rent
  4. “My Own Worst Enemy” Lit
  5. “La Vie Boheme B” Rent
  6. “Snakes on a Plane (theme)” Trevor Rabin
  7. “Heartbreak” Sarah McLachlan
  8. “Droids of Tattooine” Star Wars the Musical
  9. “Exodus” Evanescence
  10. “Make Sex” Andrew WK
  11. “Return of the Jedi” John Williams
  12. “Rent” Rent
  13. “Ombra Mai Fu” Andrea Bocelli
  14. “Body Crumbles” Dry Cell
  15. “The Words ‘Best Friend’ Become Redefined” Chiodos
  16. “Into the West” Annie Lennox
  17. “Greater Lights” Charlotte Martin
  18. “Kerosene” Mad at Gravity
  19. “Les Poissons” The Little Mermaid
  20. “Dethharmonic” Dethklok
  21. “Wish You Were Here” Rasputina
  22. “Capa’s Last Transmission Home” Sunshine
  23. “The Wonderful Future” Our Lady Peace
  24. “March of the Witch Hunters” Wicked
  25. “The Show Must Go On” Queen

I approve of Spiritual Machines tracks.

There is much more OLP on my iTunes than that would have you believe
