This is just like my neighborhood. At the turn of the century a bunch of Russians moved in and now they run all the shops.
My wife is Sicilian and looks Jewish, Russian, Armenian, and the like. These guys always talk to her in their native tongue and expect her to understand them. When she refuses, they yell at her and say, “You should respect your heritage!!”
