Life is teh suck today because (a.ka. the official B_tch & Moan thread)

Best of luck today Leah! My thots are with you. Looking forward to lots of good news.

The Mrs. has the swine flu.

I hope she gets better soon… and that none of the rest of the family catches it.

My mother had it this summer and one of my sisters had it a few weeks ago… not to mention my many in-laws that got it during their winter… luckily everyone seems to be ok now

Send my good wishes to the Mrs. and take care of the family and yourself.

I hope she gets well soon. And that it doesn’t spread thru your household.

Best wishes for her speedy recovery Armando.

Thanks, guys. She’s doing okay but her fever is still there and her doctor said to stay home until she’d been fever free for 24 hours. So, no work for her tomorrow which means, low paycheck next week. This could make for a rough month. But she’s feeling better, thankfully. Just a little sluggish (but she’s up and about now, not bedridden as she was on Thursday and Friday).

Glad she is doing so well. Sad you are getting less money.

Yeah…money. We had a talk after a bit of a blow up last night and I’m beginning to wonder how much longer we’ll last if our situation doesn’t improve soon. I mean, in terms of having our own place and being able to be real, independent people once again. Is it better that we’re not fearing starvation right now even if we may lose our marriage? :frowning:

You have my deepest sympathies, man. Seriously.

I’m making it sound a little overblown. It’s just a fear, really, though a real one. We both wonder how much longer we can put up with this.

Money is a stressor but do you really love each other less?

No, not at all. But it’s not the money; it’s the situation of living with her parents, her feeling like she’s being nagged to death and being treated like a little kid by her mom and hating her job causing her to feel stressed and being jumpy and irritable, leading to tension between us because, well, I’m the only one around she can take it out on. But I’m not very good at being the pinata either.

I just wish we could afford to get out of this house, whether it’s her or me that has the better job.

Okay, this isn’t really bad but I need to b*tch and moan anyway! I just got a nifty new Bluray player that also does Netflix streaming and now want to buy a few HD movies for it. One of the ones I wanted to buy is City of Ember (which, as a side note, is a really excellent kid-appropriate movie that I highly recommend) which came out on DVD this year. However, it was only released on Bluray in the UK and not the US. So fine, amazon.co.uk will ship it here for 13 pounds/$20 – that’s a good deal for a Bluray disk, right? Only turns out it’s locked for region B and won’t play in my region A player if I bought it.

So I have to ask – what the hell is the point of DRMing a Bluray disk if customers willing to pay good money for an HD movie cannot buy and play it even if they wanted to? Aaaaargh!

HD-DVD wouldn’t have done that. There’s a reason that Blu-Ray won the format wars, and it isn’t a friendly reason.

<_< Shoulda got a PS3

I am completely gobsmacked by the rudeness of moviegoers, and it just seems to get worse. I went to a matinee of Paranormal Activity (btw, lame–don’t waste your money) this afternoon with my friend Jen and her husband. Not crowded at all, as you can imagine on a Tuesday afternoon. But if it wasn’t the crying baby a couple rows down or the ringing cell phones, it was the running commentary of the asshats behind us. Seriously, do people just check their manners at the box office? It’s a theater, not your living room!

we’ve been spoiled as theatergoers by easy access to movies and movie-quality screen/sound at home. going to the movies isn’t special anymore. sorry you had a craaaappy experience. all the people you mention are going to the Special Hell—except for the baby. not its fault. there’s a reserved section in the Special Hell for parents who don’t have the courtesy/good sense to 1) hire a sitter and/or 2) be an actual parent :frowning:

Instead of getting to be a Starfleet science officer for Halloween, I’m going to have to settle for engineer. Stupid sizing and colors being sold out…

You’ll be a fine engineering lass. Watch out for Scotty. He’s a stalker.
