The Episode Valley of Darkness where the Cylons used a Heavy Raider to get a boarding party onto Galactica via the “Museum Hanger bay”
Also, in Razor, a Cylon Raider (albeit oldschool) got inside the operational hanger bay (still one of my favorite shots in the series when Starbuck thinks she’s home and has to turn around inside the hangar bay and kick some more sorry Barb)
I feel like there should be some pithy comment here about Boomer. But I’m not feeling very pithy today.
Yup, I like this explanation the best.
Luckily, I’m not bogged down by a knowledge of physics, so I had no trouble buying the whole concept. After all, when a ship uses its FTL, one assumes that there is some sort of bubble that forms around it How large the bubble, who knows. Boomer’s ship was so close to Galactica, she could have rolled down the side window and written her name in the space dust.
Smaller ships near a ship using FTL would be knocked about and might have some minor damage. The people on New Caprica felt some sort of wave when the Galactica used its FTL drive to leave the atmosphere, but they were much further from Galactica than Boomer was.
I assume that if Boomer had used the FTL drive near smaller ships, she would have buffeted them about and perhaps caused damage to a very close ship, though the damage would have been minimized by the smaller ships ability to “ride the wave”. The Galactica is too big to ride the wave and would suffer more damage. If Boomer uses the FTL drive near a weakened part of the ship, the damage would be greater.
When the nuke hit Galactica in the mini series, she survived, though there was quite a bit of damage. The Galactica was stronger then. Now, after taking beating after beating, if that same nuke hit I would not be surprised if the old girl blew up.
I do start to wonder about tactics though. I can’t believe that there haven’t been more FTL based fights. On the other hand, at the beginning of the show when Adama decided to use the FTL, the reaction was such that FTL was obviously a stressful, little used item. You could almost see everyone biting their nails and looking anxiously at each other. Ooooooo, scary, scary FTL. Thus perhaps one would only use the FTL wave in battle in a hail Mary move.
Bottom line, I’m not going to over think it. Looked good to me.
Yeah, I suspect FTL Missiles are like Trek Transporter Bombs. The fans will run with it, but the writers will just ignore it.

That was because something nearly a mile long left a large gaping vacuum in the atmosphere that needed to be filled. The air rushing toward this vacuum created the wind we saw.
