If only it was in 3D.
Personally, I also love how they used that little speech at the beginning of the old show as the tag line (so to speak) for the trailer. Mind you, I saw it coming, but they executed it greatly.
Also, I love Howling Mad’s quirp at the end of the trailer. Looks like they didnt screw it up
I am so there… As a Kid i remember running home so I could watch the A-team on TV…
Personally,i’m tired of hollywood ressurecting tv shows, and using video games for material.I rolled my eyes the second i heard ‘a-team movie’ (i watched a-team alot,so listen). How far can they take a van, some mercenaries, and a mohawk?..probably farther than i think,it might even be good.Transformers was,and i allmost refused to watch it.Most likely it’ll be a disaster like tombraider, deathrace, willy wonka etc, there’s WAY too many bombed remakes to list.Smurf movie? Hollywood is killing me.What happened to original scripts, and award winning movies?
Easy $ for hollywood, just let the name get us to the boxoffice.
I don’t know. I liked Deathrace. I mean sure it’s Jason Statham drives a car and shoots people part 7, but it was fun.
I think A-Team will be fun and that’s all I want from a movie.
Besides, ‘original’ movies are being made all the time, they are just being made right along side of a bunch of remakes. Not only that, but just because a movie is original in the sense that it isnt based on a pre-existing property, that doesnt mean it will be any good. I wont bother listing any because anyone who watches movies regularly can probably come up with a list of cinematic failures that had a premier in the past decade in short order.
I just hope its at least as entertaining as A-Team was when I was a child.
That’s true. I do wonder why they go back to the well, though. Not that I think it’s a bad thing. I don’t think it’s as simple as cashing in on an existing property. I know A-Team has a cult following, so it seems as possible someone wants to remake these movies for the nostalgia effect as much as trying to make a quick buck.
One order of knowledge-free assumptions coming up:
- They already have the rights to them, or can acquire the rights relatively cheaply.
- There is an amount of canonical plot to make developing the screenplay “easy” (and possibly cheaply, unless they go through many rewrites/writers.
- Lots of pre-existing fans, plus with enough exploding helicopters (or other big mechanical device to go boom) you’ll get the 14-18 bracket as well. This places it very much in the Tent-pole category of film, guaranteed cash coming into the studio, from which other more risky/smaller audience films might be made. With the resurgence of the Superhero film over the last few years more and more properties are being vacuumed up and processed into films. (ok technically A-team isn’t a superhero film but it fits the mould quite well)
- As long as it doesn’t involve Uwe Boll in any capacity, it might even be good (or at least enjoyable expenditure of a couple of hours)
one of the greatest movies of all-time, the Maltese Falcon (from the book by Dashiell Hammett) was a remake of an earlier attempt. you would be surprised how many movies are remakes of movies that were not that popular and most people havent heard of.
i love original scripts and movies directed by awesome storytellers. but i will never say something shouldnt be made. make as many remakes and turn as many tv shows into movies as they can. some might not be very good, but then again a few of them might be. id at least like the option to see it.
im definately going to see the ateam, and probably the smurfs. i can watch a foreign artistic movie and follow it up with some mindless hollywood moneymaker and like both movies.
how far can you take a van, some mercenaries, and a mohawk? that sounds like a recipe for entertainment to me.
Point taken rodney.
Maltese Falcon,i know the book,i’ll have to catch that one.I’m pleased to be a part of this thread.I like the responses & thoughts.
Quality is being replaced by quantity…original by generic. This trend will continue if we keep watching (paying).
I realize TONS of movies are remakes, many with different titles.I guess it comes down to wether or not i saw the original…and if i liked it.I think hollywood should stay away from timeless classics…‘Willy wonka and the chocolate factory’ for example, should’ve never been touched. My 25 yr old buddy thinks the new ‘planet of the apes’ is an original.
I understand as time goes by,one has to dig deeper for fresh material…please dig hollywood.I’m tired of ‘recipe’ and ‘remade’ movies.
Have to say I winced when I heard The A Team was being remade for the big screen.
However, after finding out that it’s directed and co-written by Joe Carnahan, the man behind the excellent “Smokin’ Aces” I’ve been given pause for thought.
Perhaps it will turn out okay after all, will have to wait and see!
I went to see it a few days ago. I loved it. A great action movie with some comedy. It was awesome. Apparently there’s a scene after the credits. I missed it, so I might have to go back again.
The scenes at the end are the cameos by Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz. They’re fun but everyone else left in the theater I was in also so you aren’t alone.
It really is a fun, awesome movie. Just love they kept the original theme in there… awesomeness!
