Total owned cell phones: 2
a) Motorola C139: With German SIM-Card, old but reliable. I don’t need fancy-smancy stuff like java games, different ringtones for different callers and such
b) Nokia 1800: With Austrian SIM-Card, more modern, and it even has radio capabilities

just for comparison:

from my end felt owned cell phones by her: 6-10

The younger generations are really over exaggerating it!

I don’t know the brands, or even the companies for most of these, but I’ve had:

  1. Of of those bigger ones that was about an inch thick and gunmetal grey.
  2. One with a black/white screen and the “internet” was to their sites only and cost $##/minute.
  3. An updated version of #2 with a color screen, but everything else I used was a step down.
  4. A net10 phone of some kind.
  5. A 2nd net10 phone, because they were essentially free.
  6. Walmart’s “smartphone” just to see what was so great about smart phones.
  7. A Motorola Droid (I guess you’d call it a “1” as the 2’s out now)

1 I had for a few years in the late 90s, 2 and 3 got me from about 2001-2007, 4 and 5 were each in 2008 and 2009, 6 I had for part of 2010, and 7 I’ve had since, and likely will keep for at least another year. The Droid 2 is nice and all but not nice enough to upgrade.

Let’s see here, I got my first phone in my senior year of high school and I’m 27 now.

  1. some kind of Nokia
  2. another kinda of Nokia
  3. some type of Samsung flip phone
  4. Motorola Razr
  5. LG NV2
  6. iPhone 3
  7. iPhone 4 (current)

Up until I got the iPhone 3, I had been on my mom’s cellular plan and we just upgraded the phones every time she renewed the contract. Eventually I decided I wanted a phone with Internet connectivity, so I signed up for my own AT&T contract and got an iPhone. Had that for a little over two years and decided to upgrade to the 4 a couple months ago.

I’ve personally owned approximately 8 in past 16 years. Work related phones I have no idea … dozens I would imagine ( and no, I’m not in the mob, see 5th amendment).

first was a Nokia 2110 … this looks vaguely familiar … owned for about 2 weeks, then it was cloned :frowning:

Only two. I had a Nokia flip phone for years, and just got an HTC Thunderbolt.

I’m a classic late adopter, but once I decide to jump I tend to make big changes. :slight_smile:

Two Motorola Flip Phones, a Sprint phone, a Motorola Razr, a LG Voyager, and a Motorola Droid. There might have been a replacement Razr in there too, I can’t remember.

I got my first cellphone, a Motorola W175g, three years ago. I got my second and current cellphone, an LG600G, early last year. I only have it for emergencies (like during a Comcast outage) or when I travel.

I got my first cell phone in 2000. Welcome to the 20th century! Don’t let the millennium hit you in the ass on the way out.

Anyway, it was a Motorola StarTAC 130. I had it for a couple of years. It was purchased by my employer. At home, I was still using a gasp landline. The retractable antenna broke and would flop all over the place while I walked down the street. In 2004, I finally got a new phone, a Verizon LG VX4500. My Motorola had duct tape and rubber bands trying to hold it together at that point. Those were the awkward years. Folks were walking around with some many devices hanging on their belts (personal planners, email device, cell phone, beepers, etc.)

Finally, Smartphones were born. Now I’m sporting a Blackberry Bold.

I’m on my third phone, I really get my money’s worth

My first was a Nokia 3410
Next was a Nokia 6230i
Currently a Nokia 5800

Although I’m looking to change phones very soon. I was quite happy with my 5800, until a software update completely nerfed the Sat Nav by removing post code searches. It’s a lot less useful than it once was. I generally have to manually find where I want to go using google maps on my PC then plot a point on the map to use it. It’s really annoying, it used to work so well.

I’m set on getting something Android based. At the moment I’m thinking either the HTC Desire S, Desire HD or Google Nexus S. I’ll probably start a thread looking for recommendations soon. One of the most important things is a decent sat nav that can store maps (of the UK and Ireland) and most importantly doesn’t require an internet connection to work. I keep finding conflicting information if the updated google maps can do this.

I’m a year older than Venona and got my first phone at the same age. Most of my friends got their first phones at 16 when they started driving. My 7 years-younger brother got his first phone at 14. I hear that 10-12 is now the appropriate age for the first phone–is that right?

Anywho, I got whatever was free when I signed up. A black Nokia of some sort. So that’s 1.

  1. Mobile while living in Spain
  2. LG flip phone that my mom picked for me upon return to U.S. (have been on her plan ever since!)
  3. Nokia flip phone that died a sad, early death due to canoe accident
  4. New, identical Nokia flip phone
  5. Samsung somethingorother
  6. HTC Inspire (love it!)

So 7 phones in 9 years. I guess that’s not a great track record.

A grand total of zero, never needed one for work purposes and refuse to pay for a land line and mobile contract/pay as you go so the land line it is for xDSL purposes.

I’ve had 3 in the US (not counting the crappy cheap ones I’ve had abroad), and the first one I had I got at age 18, I’m now 27. Currently, I have a smartphone but it’s the first one I’ve had (others were pretty basic early 2000s)

My parents bought me my first phone at 16 when I started driving.

  1. The ever faithful Motorola Grey Brick!

  2. Motorola StarTac - First phone I bought for myself

  3. Nokia 5110 - I think everybody had ones of these at some point

  4. Motorola v710 flip phone

  5. Motorola Razr - What a piece of craaap!

  6. Motorola Razr v2 - After my Razr fell apart.

  7. iPhone 3gs - It was given to me, for free!

  8. iPhone 4 - Just bought it a couple weeks ago.

So I’m 32 now and on my 8th phone.
