How 'bout a national meet up?

Whoops…no Cardassians at the ST:EXP! Klingons, Ferengis, Andoreans, Vulcans, Bajorans and the shop keepers have badges stating that they are Holographic.

I gotta guit visiting this forum from work! I can’t get things posted right and cracking up laughing has had some of my co-workers doing the prairie dog thing to see what’s going on in my cubicle.

Yeah, it is there. Considering the folks resident here on the forum I do caution that due to NGC regs some participants have to take alternate routes within the hotel. There are quite a few gaming devices in fairly close proximity to the area concerned. If you are over 21 there is no problem but otherwise you have to follow an alternate routing to get to and from.

I did not get a chance to stop in the ride portion to check on prices (non-ride portions have free admission). I had a shoot in Henderson later that night that I had to prep for. The biggest word of caution is to make sure you go to the correct Hilton. Hilton also has a condo installation right near what The Donald is building opposite the Wynn. The two installations are pretty close to each other which also helps with confusion.

After Mr. Herder’s on-location call in this week’s podcast, I’m double charged to make a meetup in Vegas happen. I’d be up for it, even if only a few people could make it out.

So let’s talk turkey: what’s the best way to do this? Would it be good to set a date far enough in the future that we could all make plans, or should we try to throw something together in the short term?

My gut reaction is that we should set a date a ways off so anyone who wants to come could have some time to save, book cheap tickets, and work out any work/life difficulties to be able to make it. Would, say, a time early next year (or next Spring) make sense?

Well I’ve never been to Vegas, but tickets are reasonable from here, there are about a thousand details to work out but I would love to come, if you know I could make it all work, money time off, passport ect.

My question is there anyone from Vegas around, maybe they could give us advice on good deals on hotel’s directions ect.

We can’t stop here it’s alpaca Country

If they are going to split the 4th Season into two parts, a meetup in between the two in Vegas would be great! That would give people enough time to save and plan, and we’d have lots to discuss (the season that just happened and the rest to come).

Just a thought.

And a great thought it is! I’m working as an intern at my church right now, so there’s no way I’m saving up money for a trip farther than the grocery store, at least not for a few months yet.

It’s sounding like the idea of something, say, next spring is making sense to a lot of people. I think it’d certainly work best for me, in that I’d have four or five months to save up for it.

We could start doing some research now – maybe brainstorm on what we’d like to do, where we’d stay, etc. Then maybe sometime around the end of the year we could set our final date and lock it in. If we weren’t much earlier than March or April, we’d all still have three or four months minimum to get it on the calendar, move stuff around, and save, save, save.

If this is starting to make sense to you, maybe I should move this thread somewhere and turn it into a planning thread – where we could all throw in our ideas and research to plan the event. Once we’re getting ready to set the actual date, we could throw it back into this section to let everyone know about it.

Just ideas, of course. What do all of you think?

I say we have an International Space Station meet up. Neutral ground and we all have to travel around the same distance.

Chuck, I think you hit zee nail on zee head in stating that you/“we” need to set a place and a date several months (minimum) in advance. I don’t care where y’all decide to meet, I’ll be there, just give me some time to save up for it !!

You can go to their website here:

http://www.startrekexp.com/

You can get an idea of all that is there and cheaper prices for tickets if you order online. I think they are about $42 at the ticket counter there. Tickets get you all day access to the museum and the attractions. Plus a link for Quark’s with menu.

There’s 2 attractions: Klingon Encounter which has a shuttle simulator and Borg Invasion which is interactive and has a 3D movie (effects like Honey I Shrunk the Audience at Disney). Plus on the way to the attractions they have a museum of props from the TV shows and movies which is cool.

Plus on eBay there are auctions for Quark’s Bar that can help you save a bit. Quark’s has good food but a bit pricey.

If the date for the season four start keeps getting bounced around I would say an early 2008 meet-up may be best. At a minimum it would act as a safety valve for everybody’s frustration. McCarran International Airport serves as a hub for US Airways (termed in July a low-cost airline by the Las Vegas Review-Journal oddly enough) and Southwest flies heavily there. That would be a few months away and would allow folks to save up.

i have a funny feeling my parents wont be down for me going to vegas to meet a bunch of old guys(and girls…and not so old people)who i talk to online

Your parents are being quite sensible, Boxy.

Easy answer: bring 'em with you.

That could get interesting…

Amen… My parents would have been … “Woo hoo, free babysitting!”… LOL

Since this was posted in response to BoxeyTheBoxed’s mention of Area 51 (which is in the same region as Las Vegas) in another thread I am cross-posting it here for reference:

Area 51 is located due north of Las Vegas mostly in the Nevada county called Lincoln. There is not a whole lot there although in the town of Alamo there is a nice little restaurant and hotel (the Wind Mill, I believe) that is found on the north-south line there running from Las Vegas to Elko. The only commercially available air service to get anywhere that area effectively is to fly in to Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is one of the few parts of Nevada with airspace that is open to commercial traffic. Well over half the state’s airspace is restricted to military use (somewhere around 80%, if memory serves). I have seen signs for an “airport” in Lincoln County but there is no regular passenger service running there.

(I should mention that it is a two hour drive easily from Las Vegas into Lincoln County and that is not even to get to the officially designated Extraterrestrial Highway)

Define interesting.

In this context, a unique scenario with potentially unpredictable outcomes.

I’ll give you lots of candy and let you sit on my lap.

(Apologies…apologies, all around. That was so wrong. So bad. Bad Armando! No biscuit!)
